Elizabeth Seton Conference serving Newmarket and East Gwillimbury focuses on helping families, seniors and individuals in our community, who have fallen on hard times. Indigenous Land Acknowledgement
We, the Society of St Vincent de Paul serving in East Gwillimbury and Newmarket, acknowledge that we do our work and meet on Aboriginal land that has been inhabited by Indigenous peoples from the begi

nning. In particular, we acknowledge the lands originally used and occupied by the First Peoples of the Williams Treaties First Nations, as well as the traditional territories of the Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe peoples, whose presence here continues to this day. We reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations, and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous Peoples and their cultures.

Volunteer Appreciation

Thanks to all the SSVP volunteers who work throughout the year in supporting those in need throughout the Newmarket/East Gwillimbury area. Your time and efforts are fantastic. Not only do our Members deliver good food boxes and food cards, but they also provide assistance for families with children in applying for the Canada Learning Bond, and also give direction to individuals as to where to get tax assistance.

Special thanks to our Bingo volunteers for fundraising at Bingo World and Gaming Newmarket. This opportunity, given to us by Newmarket Charity Gaming Association, has really helped us in continuing our community support.

It is important for us to be part of Charitable Gaming.
Every play supports charities like ours!

In today's weekly reflection on the Sunday Scriptures (3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time,) Mary M McGlone, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet, writes in the National Catholic Reporter:

It's easy to go to Mass, to sing with a great choir and eat donuts with people afterward. There's no danger in that. But is that all that we are invited to as disciples?
There's a T-shirt recently promoted that displays the words, "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty." Advocating for peace, the recognition of the dignity of each person, for food and health care for everyone — within and beyond our borders — is not politics, it is Christianity in action. Supporting efforts toward peace belongs to our mission — even when it is neither comforting or safe.
Paul intended his message to the Christian community at Corinth to be, at the very least, a wake-up call. He had heard rumours about behaviour unbecoming of disciples — rivalry, scorn of the poor, partisanship and much more. He minced no words in denouncing such conduct, reminding them that they were capable of much more: of being the body of Christ in their world.
Are we, too, capable of much more than we might imagine? What are our times calling forth from us?

Domestic violence can take lives. A woman in London, Ontario has died following a traumatic injury, and a 56-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police are classifying this incident as femicide, highlighting that violence against women, particularly intimate partner violence, is a serious, often underreported issue. Nearly 80% of victims of IPV or gender-based violence are women, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness, education, and intervention.
