Sanctuary on 6th is a Community Ministry of the United Church of Canada. “There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship” David Foster Wallace
Covid-19 has left us shell-shocked from isolation. Social media sends us to separate corners. Freedom convoys tell us we have something to fear. Capacity for differences has atrophied. Where can
we be safe? What can we trust? Who are my people? Imagine a safe place - a sanctuary - and an experience, where you can be fully who you are, being and relating, embraced within the holy mystery, who is wholly love. Beheld
Encounter the mystery and simply let yourself be held in the loving embrace of the One who is far more ready to reach out to us than we are to reach back. Belong
To any of the experiences offered in sanctuary, that invite you into the next moment, the next experience, the opportunity to be and relate with the divine mystery, aspects of God the Creator, who is both in creation and beyond it. Believe
In yourself and the you that you’re becoming. Believe you can direct yourself toward right relationship with each other and with the Holy Mystery; that together, our place is but one strand in the web of life. Believe we can recognize all people as kin - the kin-dom of the Holy Mystery who is wholly love. From this beautiful place of Holy Mystery, as people begin to claim the space as their own, meeting God on their own terms, the compelling, life-changing practices of the United Church of Canada emerge.
“The Gathering” rests at the heart of its public witness, a weekly place of music, personal story telling, contemporary thought, reflection, engagement and community building. Echoing the call to gather, Sunday Morning worship, with Shiloh Fifth Avenue United, brings the best of contemporary theology.
“The Quiet Centre” takes seekers on a personal quest through contemplative practices – Chapel Yoga, The Labyrinth, Centering Prayer.
“The Commons” with its bistro, kitchen and comfy lounge, invites people into community. A weekly community meal before the Gathering, the “Dark Horse” Mens Group, the Rainbow Chorus of New Westminster, and the a soon to be published podcast “Sanc on 6” are all expressions of “The Commons.”
