In Ontario, more than 80,000 people were known to be “rough” homeless – living in parks, tents, or on the streets. This number rises to 234,000 when you include the “hidden” homeless, those who have supported/temporary accommodation (couch surfing) or who stay in shelters. Many more are at risk of becoming homeless.
In the Timiskaming District, there are between 40 and 50 people in various states of homelessness on any given night.
