We had an exciting outreach at VIU last week– God showed up in many ways! Overall, we had 18 faith interactions with students in one hour. Here’s how it went:
Shout out to God and to those He brought together for this time: Stefan (Circuit Riders), Mark & Caleb (Fire & Fragrance DTS graduates), Julie (UCM), Melissa (Oceanside Church), Eli (Generations Church) and myself (Livé with YWAM). There were seven of us total and to our surprise and delight, the campus was hosting a BBQ event in our usual area so there were tons more people than normal. It didn’t take long before all of us were engaging in conversations and prayer.
People were coming up with their friends asking about baptism…
Believers excited to receive prayer on their campus…
Encouraging students that had been wounded from past church experiences…
Curious students with questions that led to the Gospel shared several times…
Then two girls responding to the message of the Gospel right there and receiving salvation!
One of our crew had a specific prayer that God would give her faith and during the outreach a girl came directly to her to ask for prayer and her name was Faith– let’s go!!!
A young man, Jake, approached us to ask about the “Free Prayer” signs we were holding and why we were doing it. There was genuine interest and the conversation went deep. He walked away without receiving prayer. But then he returned later with more questions. Jake shared some of the burdens he was carrying and shortly after, allowed us to pray for him. As we were praying over his situation, I sensed that God wanted me to give him money. As I reached out for my wallet, I asked God how much I should give and without missing a beat He said, “All of it.” I don't usually have large amounts of money but I had just received cash for my birthday so I happened to have a good chunk of money. When I handed it to him, he was blown away and said he couldn’t accept it and that he didn’t deserve it. The Holy Spirit came upon me so strongly and filled my mouth with a message of the Gospel. I shared with Jake that no one deserves God’s grace and Jesus’ righteousness, rather it is something that we receive in faith because of HIS love and kindness towards us. That the work of Jesus was him paying our debt to sin and death by dying on the cross, while fully innocent and pure. He wasn’t bound by death and resurrected. And that we must simply believe in the work of Jesus to make us new and turn away from our sin. The moment was palpable and you could see that Jake was taking it in. He didn’t decide in that moment to follow Jesus but he hugged us several times before leaving, thanking us for what we shared!
Please keep Jake in your prayers, that he would see God intervene in his family situation and continue to draw Jake to deeper understanding of His love of him!
