Prasadam Distribution – March 9, ISKM Montréal
We asked Bhakta Patrick to accompany us for the prasadam distribution, and he gladly accepted. We headed out around 11:30 in the morning with two large pots full of prasadam. We drove to the spot where we normally distribute, only to find that the homeless people there were already eating. They had been supplied with food by a welfare charity.
Bhakta Patrick then suggested that we go to another place nearby. We distributed a few plates there, and this is where we met Mr. Pierre, who turned out to be a real jewel of an elderly man. He first accepted a plate of prasadam, and then came to us and asked if we could bring a plate to his brother, who lived about five minutes away by car. We agreed, and he came along with us in the car.
He gave the plate to his brother, and we managed to distribute a few more plates near the apartment where he lived. We could see that he was a modest man with poor means of livelihood, but he had a very big heart. He told us that he had been doing volunteer work for different charities and institutions for many decades. He said he wanted to join us in distributing prasadam.
Not knowing that it was actually prasadam — the Lord’s mercy — he ended up distributing most of the plates himself, walking everywhere and looking for people who would accept them, asking everyone along the way. He suggested many different places where homeless people usually stayed, and in this way he showed us new locations where we could easily distribute food in the future. All the while he kept saying, “All glories to God,” “God bless you,” and he even chanted Hare Krishna with us.
Despite his age, he was very active and enthusiastic. He asked us to contact him whenever we would do this again. We took his number and invited him to the Sunday feast.
It was very amazing to see how Kṛṣṇa works. A sincere elderly man like him got the opportunity to distribute prasadam and ride along with devotees during the whole distribution. It shows that when someone is sincere, Kṛṣṇa somehow arranges for that person to become engaged in His service.
