Eternity

The concept of eternity is one that has often made my mind race and made me feel anxious. It has caused me to cry out to God to help me deal with the idea of endless existence. When I was a young boy, thoughts of eternity and infinity would rob me of sleep, making my heart beat fast and my palms get wet.
Although the Lord helped me deal with this later on, I still think about eternity and infinity sometimes. However, now I thank God for who He is, for what He has done and is doing in my life, and for how much He cares for each human being that He created. And yes, I still think that eternity and infinity are awesome concepts.
When the Bible speaks of eternal life, it refers to our relationship with God, not just the passing of time. Jesus said:
 Now this is eternal life: that they may know the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3)
Yet eternity refers to an existence that will never end. The question is where we will spend that existence. In God’s presence… or with those who have rejected Christ and with the angels of darkness?
Every moment, every heartbeat brings us closer to the inevitable. We are all moving through time toward eternity. Does that fill us with joyful expectancy or with the sense of fear and anxiety?
That all depends on our relationship to Jesus Christ. Jesus has provided the only way to God. He told His disciples:
 I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
What about you? Do you know where you will spend eternity? If you don’t know, or if you are not sure, please invite Jesus into your life. He is the only way to eternal life.

It's that time of year again!

This Saturday, before going to bed, remember to change any analog watches or clocks you have and move them back one hour. Daylight Savings ends on November 1, which means you can sleep one hour longer... or, if you normally only come to the worship service, join us for Bible study at 9:45 a.m.! :)

Sin is Sin (no matter what you call it)

A church leader stormed into his pastor’s
study and insisted that the minister stop preaching so plainly about sin. He said that the young people of the
church would be tempted to try it for themselves, if they heard so much about it. He went on to suggest that the pastor should simply refer to these sins as “mistakes” and go no further.
The wise pastor quickly went to one of his closets where he kept some cleaning material and took out a bottle. Returning to the church leader who was still upset he said, “I see what you mean.” Showing him the bottle marked with big letters, POISON, he said: “Suppose I remove this label and put one on that reads ‘antacid’… will that be good?”
“Don’t you see?” the pastor continued. “The milder you make the label, the more deadly you make the poison!”
Sin is sin… no matter what you call it or what label you put on it! God hates sin. It is the most deadly poison. It kills the soul if it is not confessed and removed from the life of the believer.
Every preacher, teacher, and Temple Baptist Churchch leader must warn people about the dangerous consequences of sin. Listen to what God asked Isaiah to do. God said:
 Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and… their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)
Why is it that many trumpeters who have been commissioned are silent? Have the warning labels been replaced with less threatening labels?
I am afraid so. Most sins are now labelled “lifestyle”, “error”, “mistake” or “fine, as long as you don’t harm anyone.” But the Bible still calls them “sin” and marks them: “Danger! Don’t touch!”
 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who call bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. (Isaiah 5:20)
Salvation involves turning away from sin, not only changing the labels!
If you are a Christian but have not been living a life that pleases Christ, if sin has robbed you of blessings and joy and if you honestly want to quit sinning and live a life of holiness, confess your unconfessed sins to God and ask for forgiveness. Then trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13) Have you made peace with God?

Worldly pleasures, and even religion, cannot satisfy spiritual thirst. Only the Living Water that comes from Christ can.
