Under the guidance of the late Imam Khoei, the foundation was founded to support the Shiite community and serve their social and religious needs in Islamic and non-Islamic countries. By the auspices of God and the holy presence of Imam al-Mahdi (a.s.), the foundation was launched in 1989 and the headquarters w
ere based in London, England. Several branches followed in Iran, Iraq, USA, Canada, France, Thailand and India. The foundation was established with Islamic-Shia values and Ahlulbait (a.s.) teachings in the core of its objectives, and strived to serve the Shiite community in all aspects especially the religious, social and cultural areas. To ensure a standing and lasting presence of the foundation, the late Ayatullah established in consultation with a number of notable scholars the foundation’s statute and appointed a directing council to supervise its activities. The council members include a number of notable scholars and experts whom are aware of the Shiite needs and are experienced in directing benevolent foundations. After the passing of the Ayatullah, the foundation remained under the guidance of the great Maraja of the time and the council of the foundation is appointed in consultation with him. Currently, the Al-Khoei Foundation is directed by the son of the late Ayatullah, secretary general Sayyid Abdul-Sahib Al-Khoei. The board of trustees includes a number of highly ranked scholars and cultural activists and the foundation holds strong ties with the office of his eminence, Ayatullah Sistani. By the auspices of God, the Al-Khoei Foundation has grown over the last year to be one of the most active foundations that serve the Shiite community internationally. The foundation established a number of Islamic centres, schools, universities and religious schools in different countries. In 1996, the foundation became the fourth Islamic centre and the first Shiite foundation to be selected by the United Nations Economic and Social Council to support the council in the fields of human rights and minority rights. The Al-Khoei Foundation branch in Montreal, Canada is currently one of the most active Islamic Centres in Canada which participates actively in affairs related to the Canadian Muslim community. A number of activities are held at the branch of the foundation in Montreal including:
- Religious meetings and ceremonies in different languages (Arabic, Persian, English and French) on a weekly basis and during anniversaries of Ahlulbait (a.s.) including the holy months of Ramadan, Muharram and Safar.
- Religious classes in Arabic and Persian to teach the sciences of Quran (memorizing and recitation), Fiqh (jurisprudence), Aqaed (beliefs) and ethics.
- Cultural and religious activities for youth and children
- Communication with other Islamic Centres in Canada and consultations with scholars about the religious and cultural affairs of the Muslim community.
-Organisation of conferences and hosting experts in the fields of education, religion, ethics and society.
- Addressing the religious and social needs of the local community such as religious Q&A, marriage and family affairs.
- An Islamic school and preschool. Al-Huda School and Preschool
One of the most important establishments of the foundation in Montreal is the AL-Huda primary and secondary school. The primary school was established in 2002 and since then has been recognised officially in Canada as a French teaching school. In 2009, the ministry of education in Quebec officially recognised the Al-Huda secondary school and experienced teachers were appointed to deliver high standard curriculum. Aside of the official curriculum and under supervision of the Ministry of Education in Quebec, a number of classes are taught including Quran and religion classes, Arabic and English classes. Recognising the importance of the school environment on the upbringing of children, the school ensured that the program and its regulations preserved the ethics and morals of Islam, and cultural and religious values are at the heart of its system. Preschool::
In addition to the school, the Al-Khoei foundation in Montreal established a licensed preschool that operates under supervision of the ministry of education in Quebec. In response to the needs of the families residing in Montreal, the preschool was established in 2006 to receive children of 3-4 year sold and support their parents in upbringing them in an attractive and safe Islamic environment.

موسسه آیت الله العظمی خویی(ره)به دستور آن مرجع بزرگوار با هدف ارائه خدمات دینی و فرهنگی و اجتماعی شیعیان در کشورهای اسلامی و غیر اسلامی در سال 1989 میلادی تاسیس و راه اندازی گردید و با کمک خداوند متعال و توجهات حضرت بقیة الله العظم (عج) و با پیگیری ها و راهبردهای آن مرجع فقید در مدت کوتاهی به ثمر نشست و با راه اندازی مرکز اصلی آن در شهر لندن انگلستان و شعبات متعدد در سراسر دنیا از جمله ایران، عراق ، آمریکا، کانادا، فرانسه ، پاکستان، تایلند و هندوستان گسترش یافت و هم اکنون این موسسه به عنوان یک موسسه اسلامی شیعی جهانی در راستای مذهب اهل بیت علیهم السلام در ابعاد مختلف دینی و فرهنگی و اجتماعی مشغول خدمت می باشد.
نظر به این که زعیم فقید مرحوم آیت الله العظمی خویی مصر بر استمرار خدمات این موسسه بعد از ارتحال ایشان بودند لذا اساس نامه متقنی را با مشاوره علماء و افراد خبره در امور مختلف تنظیم نمودند و هیئتی از علماء و افراد خبره و دلسوز از ملیت های مختلف را جهت نظارت و اشراف بر کارهای موسسه تحت اشراف مرجعیت اعلی شیعه در هر عصر و زمان تعیین فرمودند.
هم اکنون موسسه با نظارت متولی عام ، فرزند آن مرجع فقید جناب حجت الاسلام والمسلین آقای سید صاحب خویی و کمک هیئت امناء مرکزی که از شخصیت های برجسته علمی و فرهنگی از کشورهای مختلف می باشند تحت اشراف مرجع اعلی شیعه حضرت آیت الله العظمی سیستانی مد ظله اداره می شود.
به حمد الله تعالی این موسسه یکی از بزرگترین و مطرح ترین مراکز شیعی در دنیا به شمار می آید، که دارای مراکز اسلامی متعدد و مدارس و دانشگاه ها و حوزه های علمیه در مناطق مختلف دنیا می باشد، فعالیت می نماید.
در سال 1996 موسسه خیریه الخویی به عنوان چهارمین مرکز اسلامی و اولین مرکز شیعی مقام رایزنی عمومی شورای اقتصادی – اجتماعی سازمان ملل متحد را کسب نمود که وظیفه این شورا کمک به بهبود حقوق بشر و اقلیتها می باشد.

مدرسه:
یکی از مهمترین برنامه های موسسه در مونترال افتتاح مدرسه ابتدایی و دبیرستان می باشد که از سال 2002 مدرسه ابتدایی با اجازه رسمی دولت کانادا افتتاح شد که تا کنون به عنوان یکی از مدارس نمونه رسمی کانادایی به زبان فرانسه مشغول به فعالیت است.
از سال 2009 با گرفتن اجازه رسمی از وزارت آموزش کبک دبیرستان هدی نیز راه اندازی گردید که با کادری مجرب و اساتیدی برجسته ، گذشته از دروس رسمی مدارس کانادایی – زیر نظر وزارت آموزش کبک – دروس قرآنی و دینی و زبان عربی و انگلیسی نیز تدریس می شود.
مدرسه هدی با جوی آرام و اسلامی جهت تربیت فرزندان با آداب و اخلاق اسلامی و حفظ ارزشهای دینی و فرهنگی طرا حی و برنامه ریزی شده است.
مهد کودک :
موسسه آیت الله العظمی خویی(ره) علاوه بر مدرسه ، مهد کودک رسمی تحت نظارت دولت کبک برای کودکان 3-4 سال را از سال 2006 راه اندازی کرده است که در راستای تقاضای خانواده های محترم ساکن مونترال که علاقه مند به رشد و تربیت عزیزانشان در محیطی اسلامی، آرام ، جذاب و امن می باشند فعالیت می نماید.
