Donation of old books to the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM)

On Monday June 1, members of the General Council and the Archives Services team of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame were invited to a signing ceremony, formalizing the Congregation’s donation of some 3,500 books to the Centre des livres rares et collections spéciales at UQÀM.

Both the Director of Library Services, Frédéric Guiliano, and the Congregation’s Leader, Sister Ona B. Bessette, stressed that this donation of books continues the educational mission at the heart of both institutions. Hugues Ouellet, librarian in charge of the rare book collection, underlined the importance of this heritage and how it has enriched the library’s collection, which previously did not include representation of any female congregations.

Guests were able to visit the conservation room where the books donated by the Congregation will be kept and to observe some of the fine works in the collection in the Centre’s consultation room.

It should be remembered that an earlier link already existed between the libraries of this university and the Congregation, with the music library dedicating a collection to Sister Marcelle Corneille.

Sr. Marianne Reid, CND

Sister Marianne was a teacher and a massage therapist. While this may seem unusual, it is very common for CND Sisters to have different "careers".

Miramichi Associates gathered on Tuesday, May 19th

We were pleased to welcome Dianne MacAskill, Associate Coordinator, coming from Sydney, NS; Marjorie Allison-Ross, Associate Leader in Woodstock, NB; and Sister Eleanor McCloskey from Fredericton.

It was a lively meeting, organized by Associate Fran. After prayer and our renewal ceremony, we shared on the ongoing preparations for the General Chapter this summer. Following lunch, Marjorie showed slides and told stories from the recent webinar presented by Woodstock Associates about their long-term projects of allyship with their Indigenous neighbors and parishioners.

With thanks for all her generous involvement with Associates, Dianne was gifted with a beautiful prayer shawl. Rena presented a framed picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Sister Eleanor. A birthday cake set celebrations in motion for Sister Eleanor – a month ahead of time!

Members left mid-afternoon, having greatly enjoyed our time together. Associate Relationship really is a relationship! We carry on!
