WARNING TO BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIANS: SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM UNGODLY FRIENDSHIPS!
Amos 3:3 (KJV)
"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"
Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, now that you are born again and have come to Jesus Christ in genuine repentance, you must be careful about the company you keep.
Do not maintain close friendships with thieves, fornicators, adulterers, drug users, or those who encourage you to live in sin.
Those old friends with whom you used to attend ungodly parties, engage in immoral activities, and practise sinful habits should no longer be your close companions.
You have repented! You have surrendered your life to Jesus Christ! You are now a new creature!
Why should you continue to associate closely with people who encourage the very sins you have forsaken?
If you claim to be born again, yet your closest friends are people who continually practise and encourage ungodliness, you need to examine your spiritual life seriously.
What are you learning from such friendships? What influence are they having on your Christian life?
Before you realize it, you may find yourself returning to the very things you once repented of: fornication, adultery, drunkenness, drug abuse, worldly partying, and other sinful practices.
Remember, evil communication corrupts good manners!
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?
1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV)
"Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners."
2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"
Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)
"He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed."
MY ADVICE TO YOU
Surround yourself with godly people who love Jesus Christ, practise holiness, and encourage you to grow spiritually.
This does not mean you should hate unbelievers, despise them, or refuse to help them. Love them, pray for them, and preach the gospel of salvation to them.
However, do not allow close friendships to draw you back into the sinful lifestyle you have already forsaken.
Remember, you can love sinners without participating in their sins.
Choose your friends wisely. Your companions can either strengthen your walk with God or draw you away from Him.
My beloved brothers and sisters, this warning is given out of love, for your holiness, spiritual growth, and preparation for heaven.
Come out from among them, and be ye separate! — 2 Corinthians 6:17
May the Lord help us to remain steadfast in holiness and righteousness until the end, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
