Close to 100 people attended the last speaker series in honour of the synagogue’s 250th anniversary. On December 2nd, Ethiopian and Ashkenazi Jews were celebrated. Attendees enjoyed an Ethiopian inspired brunch followed bya presentation by keynote Speaker, Rabbi Josef Hadadi, Chief Rabbi Emeritus of the Ethiopian Community of Israel,
Other notable presenters included: Honorable Irwin Cotler, Bruce Gottlieb. AviShalom Dawit and Rabbi Menachem White.

On Sunday, November 18th, Library and Archives Canada opened an important public exhibit of artifacts in its collection illustrating this rich history. The launch was followed by a presentation by McGill Professor James Archibald on the history of social engagement in Western Sephardic communities including the Montreal synagogue. Many members of the Montreal and Ottawa Jewish communities attended this historical event in the nation's capital.

On Sunday, October 28th close to 300 people proudly celebrated the inauguration of the 250th anniversary Sefer Torah that was generously brought from Israel to Montreal from Mayer Sasson. Rabbi Yehuda Abittan led the ritual of bringing the Torah into the synagogue, having the Torah text completed and finally carrying it in its beautiful case into the Mashaal Sanctuary.

As part pf the Speaker Series taking place over the course of the anniversary year, Morocco Day will be taking place on October 7th. The event will showcase and highlight the Morrocan community that is part of the unique tapestry of the congregation.

After a magnificent performance of the McGill Chamber Orchestra last night that was attended by over 400 people, we are excited to announce another great event Wednesday evening at the Eleanor London Cote St. Luc Public Library.
The event will include the launch of the 250th History of the Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue exhibit, along with an informative lecture by immediate past-president Jim Archibald. Lecture followed by dessert and coffe.
We look forward to seeing you there!
