Day 3: When I find prayer difficult
Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8: 26-28)

Reflection for the Third Day
Thérèse of Lisieux once said that love was her vocation in life. Never was this vocation tested more than in the last nine months of her life as she lay dying with tuberculosis. She wrote a note to her sister Céline ‘Here is great love, to love Jesus without feeling the sweetness of his love – that is love pushed to the point of heroism.’

Today’s Prayer
Jesus, I believe. Help my unbelief. Jesus, you are the real bedrock of my hope. Help me always to rely on you, especially in times of doubt and trouble.Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. (Texts from https://www.sacredspace.ie/)

Day 2: What does God desire?

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
‘So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11: 9-10)

Reflection for the Second Day
St. Augustine said, ‘For yourself you have made us, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you’. I love a change a modern theologian has made in those lines – he writes, ‘Your heart is restless until we rest in you’. Our God is vulnerable to our free response hands and side. He encourages them to listen to what the scriptures say about him and then to go and preach the Good News that He is Risen.

Today’s Prayer
Lord, I come to you full of needs. But my deepest need is to become more convinced of your love for me. Help me to believe that you are with me today, tomorrow and always. Amen.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Novena to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, ‘Look, here is the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. (John 1: 35-37)

Reflection for the First Day
Jesus addresses the same question to you at the beginning of this novena

‘What do you want?’ St. Augustine said that all our desires are really a longing for God in disguise; where there is real desire, there is prayer. So, be at peace in your desire, you are already praying!

Today’s Prayer
Lord, I come to you at the start of this novena with a muddle of desires. Give me courage, to listen to what you want to say to me about these desires and give me the strength to accept your loving desires for me and for my loved ones. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. (Texts from https://www.sacredspace.ie/)

As part of the celebration of the 88th Founding Anniversary of St. Kevin’s Parish, the Music Ministry warmly invites everyone to AMARE et SERVIRE: A Night of Music – Remembering with Grateful Hearts, a special anniversary concert to be held on Saturday, June 6, at 7:00 PM in the church.

This memorable evening will feature our parish choirs: the Saturday 5:00 PM Choir, Sunday 8:30 AM Youth Choir, Sunday 11:00 AM Choir, Sunday 5:00 PM Choir, and the Children’s Choir, with the special participation of the Filipino Catholic Mission of Montreal Choir.

As we remember with grateful hearts the many blessings God has bestowed upon our parish over the past 88 years, we invite you to gather as one community and support this noble fundraising concert. The proceeds will go toward the acquisition of a new organ for our church.

Our current organ has faithfully accompanied the worship and prayer of generations of parishioners and choir members for many years. As it continues to age, the time has come to invest in a new instrument that will better serve our liturgical celebrations and support the ministry of music in our parish. Through this project, we hope to provide our choirs and future generations of musicians with a quality instrument worthy of the praise and glory of God.

Let us come together for an evening of inspiring music, fellowship, and thanksgiving as we continue our anniversary theme of "Remembering and Giving Thanks." Your presence and support will help ensure that the gift of sacred music continues to enrich the life of our parish for years to come.

Tickets priced at $20 are available at the church's main entrance. We look forward to celebrating with you.

Congratulations to Our Newly Confirmed!
With grateful hearts, the community of St. Kevin’s Parish extends its warmest congratulations to all our young people who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on May 30, 2026.

We give thanks to God for this beautiful celebration presided over by Raymond Lafontaine and concelebrated by Andrew Thuraisingam and Herbert Schulz.

We also express our heartfelt gratitude to your dedicated catechists: Melle Lugod, Diane Mendegorin, Alice Casuga, and Joan Junio, for their generosity, patience, and commitment in preparing our candidates for this important sacrament. Through their guidance and example, they have helped nurture the faith of our young people and lead them closer to Christ.

A Challenge to Our Newly Confirmed
Dear Confirmandi, through the Sacrament of Confirmation, you have been strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit and commissioned to be courageous witnesses of Christ in the world. This special day marks not the end of your faith journey, but the beginning of a deeper commitment to live as faithful disciples of Jesus.

As you move forward, remember that Confirmation is a call to mission. The Church needs your gifts, your energy, your faith, and your witness. Be active in the life of the parish, participate in the Eucharist faithfully, serve others with love, stand up for what is right, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions each day.
May you always remember that you are loved by God, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and called to share Christ's light wherever you go. May the gifts you have received continue to grow within you and bear abundant fruit in your lives.

Congratulations once again, Confirmandi of 2026! May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire, guide, and strengthen you as you journey in faith.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

A Grace-Filled Weekend and the Beginning of a Three-Year Journey

It was a full and grace-filled weekend at St. Kevin’s Parish on May 30–31, 2026.

The celebrations began on Saturday morning with the Sacrament of Confirmation, as our young candidates received the gifts of the Holy Spirit and were strengthened in their Christian faith. Surrounded by their families, sponsors, catechists, and the parish community, they took an important step in their journey as disciples of Christ.

Later that evening was the anticipated Mass of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. What a fitting feast in our liturgical year on which to celebrate the 88th Founding Anniversary of St. Kevin’s Parish and to officially launch the three-year journey of preparation toward our 90th Anniversary in 2028.

Under the general theme, “Journeying Together: 90 Years of Faith and Community,” this three-year celebration seeks to:

• Celebrate God’s goodness and blessings, and the life and mission of St. Kevin’s Parish.
• Deepen the faith and spiritual life of parishioners through prayer, the sacraments, and reflection.
• Strengthen unity and fellowship among parishioners, youth, families, ministries, religious organizations, and devotional groups.
• Honor our history and legacy by remembering our founders, leaders, and significant milestones.
• Engage in outreach and service, sharing God’s love with the wider community.
• Ensure a well-organized preparation and meaningful celebration for all.

The journey toward our 90th Anniversary will be guided by the following themes:

2026 – Remembering and Giving Thanks
Giving thanks for the countless blessings, faithful parishioners, clergy, religious, and ministries who have shaped the life of our parish over the past 88 years.

2027 – Renewing and Deepening Faith
Growing together in our relationship with Christ through prayer, formation, worship, and active participation in parish life.

2028 – Rejoicing and Walking Toward a Mission of Service and Hope
Celebrating 90 years of faith and community while embracing our mission to bring Christ’s love, service, and hope to future generations.

The celebrations continued on Sunday, May 31, with another significant milestone in the life of our parish: the official launch of the Seniors Outreach Ministry. This new ministry is dedicated to our beloved parishioners aged 65 and above, recognizing their invaluable presence, wisdom, faith, and contributions to our community.

What a beautiful gift as we celebrate the love of the Triune God. Just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit live in a communion of love, we too are called to build a parish community where every person is welcomed, valued, accompanied, and cared for. Our seniors have faithfully journeyed before us, handing on the faith through their prayers, sacrifices, witness, and service. They are a living treasure of our parish family.

Through the Seniors Outreach Ministry, we hope to foster friendship, support, spiritual growth, and meaningful fellowship among our senior parishioners. As we remember and give thanks for the blessings of the past, we also honor those whose faithfulness has helped build the foundation upon which our parish continues to grow. Their stories enrich our community, their wisdom guides us, and their faith inspires future generations.

Dear parishioners, stay tuned for the many activities and events that will mark the first year of our journey, “Remembering and Giving Thanks.” Throughout the coming months, we will celebrate the people, ministries, organizations, and milestones that have shaped St. Kevin’s Parish into the vibrant faith community it is today.

As we begin this three-year journey toward our 90th Anniversary, may we continue to walk together in faith, gratitude, and hope. Giving thanks for our past, embracing the present with renewed commitment, and looking forward with confidence to the future that God continues to prepare for St. Kevin’s Parish.

Thank you, Lord.
