The 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐲𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 is excited to announce the offering of on-line courses in Koine Greek to both students and the general public. This program provides a unique opportunity for learners to immerse themselves in the language that contributed to the shaping of Western civilization, with a special focus on sacred texts of the Old and New Testament, hymnography and the Church Fathers.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝑲𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒌?
Koine Greek is the common form of Greek that developed after Alexander the Great's conquests in the 4th century BC. It blended elements from various Greek dialects, especially Attic, and was widely used across the Hellenistic world. It is notably the language of the New Testament and other early Christian texts. It is the language of our Orthodox liturgical services.
Koine Greek remains far from being a dead –literary language since it has been and continues to be used and kept alive by our very own Local Orthodox Church.

We cordially invite you to this recital to be presented by our School of Ecclesiastical Music of Montreal on April 20, 6 PM at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church (Montreal). The theme of this recital, "The August Passion" (Τα πάθη τα σεπτά), is a reflection on the period of Holy Lent and Holy Week, through the lens of Christian Orthodox hymnography illuminated by profound hymnographers and theologians of the Orthodox Church. The musical interpretation is inspired by and attempts to capture the simple, yet majestic, classical interpretations of the ageless tradition of psalmody of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
We are honoured to have Dr. John Hadjinicolaou as the guest speaker for this event.
