From Rev. Timothy:
Blessings to you this September, especially if the month brings changes in your home due to school or work. Following on our blessing of animals service last week, we'll be visiting the Garden of Eden on Sunday as we celebrate the "Feast of Creation" on the first Sunday of September. Among the many artistic depictions of the Garden of Eden, I particularly like this one by Hieronymus Bosch, with its strange shapes and fantastic creatures (I find the owl particularly intriguing). Bosch was certainly one of the most imaginative painters of his era. Perhaps the only way to think truthfully about the beginnings of the world is by means of a strong spiritual imagination.
Speaking of gardens, this is a good time to appreciate our Hillcrest Community Garden, which is downright Eden-like this year. Thanks to our "Garden Guardians" and to Roger and Lenore Andrew in particular, for all the hard work that goes into preparing the garden, maintaining it, and connecting with gardeners throughout the season.
A reminder that our produce sharing table is open Sundays and Wednesdays for any donations or exchanges you would like to make of your fruits, vegetables, or preserves, whether or not you are gardening at the church.
