The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Indeed, the closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection are those who send the most blessings upon me." (Tirmidhi)
Think of it this way: the Prophet ﷺ told us that the people most honored in his sight, closest to him, and most deserving of his intercession on the Day of Judgment are those who send the most blessings upon him in this world.
This means making salawat upon him and his family (Aali Muhammad), such as saying:
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad.
When this becomes their most repeated form of remembrance each day, it shows sincere love and a deep heart-connection to him and his household. In the Hereafter, their nearness to him will match how much they remembered him here—just as staying in regular touch with someone you love naturally brings you closer to them.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy upon him) authored a tremendous book on this subject titled Jalaa ul-Afhaam fee Fadlis-Salaati was-Salaam ‘alaa khayril anaam. He mentioned forty benefits of sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ, including:
[1] Carrying out the command of Allah (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:56)
[2] Being in conformity with Allah in sending salutations upon him
[3] Being in conformity with the angels regarding it
[4] Attaining ten salutations from Allah for sending one
[5] Being elevated ten levels
[6] Having ten good deeds written
[7] Having ten evil deeds wiped out
[8] Increasing the hope of one’s supplication being answered
[9] A means of attaining the Prophet’s ﷺ intercession
[10] A means of sins being forgiven
..and many more, including being saved from the terrors of the Day of Resurrection, having one’s name presented to the Prophet ﷺ, and being made firm upon the Sirat.

ٱللَّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ، عَدَدَ مَا فِي عِلْمِكَ، صَلَاةً دَائِمَةً بِدَوَامِ مُلْكِكَ.
