The season of Advent starts this Sunday, November 30. The first candle is known as the Candle of Hope, or the Prophet's Candle. It symbolizes the hope that the coming messiah brings, both in his first coming and as we anticipate his second coming. We hold fast to that hope, especially in uncertain times!
At St. Mark's, we have mid-week (Wednesday) services for Advent, starting December 3. Check our website for details, and join us!

St. Mark's is thrilled to announce that Pastor Philip G*i has accepted a call to serve as our Senior Pastor. Philip has served many years as leader, then Pastor of the Nuer Language Fellowship based at our church, as Associate Pastor of our congregation, and for the past 1+ year as our Interim Lead Pastor. We've grown to love him, and we invite everyone to come to St. Mark's and meet our interesting, compassionate, and capable Pastor!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that our Senior Pastor, Jeffrey Miskus, was affirmed as Bishop of the English District of LCMS churches yesterday by voters at the District Convention in Michigan. It's no surprise to us that they value him as a leader! Jeff has been serving as an interim Bishop for the past year.

A Bishop of the English District is there to offer support to congregations who are struggling, to counsel pastors, and to preside over significant events such as ordination, to name a few of his duties. The English district churches are found throughout the USA and Ontario, so he spends a fair bit of time in airports!

Jeff, may God bless you and Sylvia abundantly with all spiritual gifts through the Holy Spirit, as you carry out this ministry in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 5. St. Mark's has Wednesday Lenten services from then until April 9, at 7:30-8:15 pm. All are welcome to join us for these quiet, meaningful services that help us take to heart just what Jesus accomplished for us. At the end of Lent, it makes Easter extra-joyful! Our Senior Pastor, Jeff Miskus, recently stepped up to the position of President of the English District of LCMS churches. This is a one-year assignment which may or may not extend past that point. We trust God will place him wherever he needs to be. Below is a picture of his installation (in Windsor, Ontario) on August 11. He's now officially a Bishop - woot! - but still just Pastor Jeff to us :)
God has given us a contingent of Pastors who are taking most of Jeff's duties for the year, since he'll only be with us once in a while, but especially the amazing Pastor Philip G*i.
