Today, we celebrated Demera, an important spiritual event which is observed on the eve of Meskel. According to Ethiopian Orthodox tradition, on this day, Queen Helena prayed to God for guidance to the location where the True Cross was buried in Jerusalem. She lit a bonfire and the direction of the smoke guided her to the site. This was a miracle and Demera commemorates this great event. Tomorrow, the EOTC continues this celebration with Meskel, the Feast of the Finding of the True Cross. May this event and Queen Helena’s faithfulness be a reminder for us to lean on God for guidance when the path ahead seems unclear. Blessed Meskel Beal to you all!
