BRIEF BOGRAPHY ON OUR GUESTS:
—Dr. Martin Hanna—
Dr. Martin F. Hanna, PhD., is Associate Professor of Systematic Theology; Co-editor of the Andrews University Seminary Studies; Director of the Andrews University Center for Interdisciplinary Dialogue; and Project Leader for “Facilitating Science-Theology Dialogue,” which has been funded by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In the Bahamas (his home country) and in Jamaica, he has served as teacher, pastor, counselor, dormitory dean, chair of the theology department, and research center director. He earned a BA from Northern Caribbean University and an MA and a PhD from Andrews University—with a dissertation titled “The Use of Science in Theology: Case Studies of Thomas F. Torrance and Langdon B. Gilkey.” Martin and his wife Henrietta (PhD. in Nursing) are proud parents of three adult children: Pharez, Melody and Zachary.
—Dr. David Burt—
Dr. David Burt is an immunologist with more than 30 years research experience in universities and vaccine companies.
He has led scientific teams involved in the development of vaccines against various infectious diseases including influenza and SARS.
He received his Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Birmingham, UK and a BSc. in Biological chemistry from Essex University, UK.
Dr. Burt has published over 40 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and is coinventor on 7 patents.
David received the African Canadian Achievement Award in Science in 1997 and the Harry Jerome Award for Health Sciences in 2006 for his professional work and promotion of science in the community.
Currently, Dr. Burt is President of D. S. Burt, R&D Consulting, offering independent consulting advice in biotechnology and vaccine research and development.
Dr. Burt is a member of a new COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force supported by the City of Toronto comprised of black doctors, scientists and public health and health equity professionals whose mandate is to engage the black community around issues related to COVID-19 and vaccines.
David is a member of the Apple Creek SDA Church in Markham, Ontario where he teaches a youth Bible class and leads a boy’s mentoring program called BRIDGE.
David is married with two adult daughters and enjoys guitar, soccer and golf.
