What does the Bible say about Earth Day? Find out this Sunday as Pastor Charles Lee delivers his second message in our current series, "Called Out for God's Mission".
"I am grateful that we are going through the new sermon series on “Called Out for God’s Mission.” Each week we are trying to answer the following questions: What has God called us out for and how does he want us to participate in his mission? What kind of people does God want for his mission? Last week we started by highlighting how we are called out to be people who know the story of God’s mission.
The Bible provides us with the grand story (or metanarrative) that makes sense of our lives and our own little stories. That we find our identity and purpose in God’s story of redemption. And that we are to apply our lives into that beautiful story of God’s redemption, instead of (or more than) trying to apply bits and pieces of God’s truth in the Bible into our lives. As Philip Greenslade said, “Through believing the story, we are drawn to the action and find ourselves caught up in the saving movement of God. We learn to ‘indwell’ the story; we stop trying to make the Bible relevant to our lives and instead begin to find ourselves being made relevant to the Bible.”
We are using Christopher Wright’s book, The Mission of God’s People, as the basis of the sermon series. For those of you who want to dive deeper into the sermon series, please grab hold of the book and read along as we journey through the sermon series. (A shorter book that I found helpful by the same author is The Great Story and the Great Commission: Participating in the Biblical Drama of Mission). And if you have any questions or comments from sermons and readings, please feel free to reach out to me. I would love to connect with you over coffee or a meal and talk about missions, church, life and everything in between.
This week we will be looking at the topic of creation care. I don’t know about you, but this is a topic that we have rarely talked about at our church (let alone in many other churches). As I have grown in my understanding of God’s story and his mission, I have realized that creation care is a really important part of our mission as God’s people. If you want to get your feet wet on the topic before this Sunday, please check out resources from Lausanne Movement in short video clips and in written format.
Looking forward to worshipping together and connecting with you this Sunday."
