Though difficult to bear this sight, fleeing from with all our might, we cannot look beyond the cross, for there we see what love has cost.

By Wednesday of that final week, the public intensity had settled. Jesus was no longer teaching in the temple or engaging the crowds. Most likely, He spent the day in Bethany with His disciples, resting after everything that had taken place. Nothing is recorded publicly, and it would have felt like a quiet pause… but it wasn’t empty. While Jesus was likely at rest, Judas went to the chief priests and began arranging the betrayal. On the surface, it was a day of stillness. In reality, the events leading to the cross were already in motion.

On the day after Palm Sunday, Jesus returned toward Jerusalem and came to a fig tree covered in leaves. It gave every sign that fruit should be there, but when He came closer, there was nothing. He cursed it, and the tree withered. This wasn’t some strange outburst over a tree, it was a sign of judgment. When placed beside His cleansing of the temple, the message becomes clear: it’s possible to have all the outward signals of life, devotion, and strength, while lacking the very thing God is looking for: something real. With a flourish of leaves, the tree advertised fruitfulness but bore none at all. Leaves might be flashy, but Jesus looks for what is real. Matthew 21:18–19

For our final day of spotlighting the work of missions through the Alliance, we focus on the tangible things we can be doing to support our missionaries (International Workers).

There’s a quiet kind of courage in those who say yes to Jesus - and go. Across the world, Alliance international workers are serving in places where Christ is barely known. Many are connected with our own district - people we’ve met, prayed with, supported, and sent.

They’re not asking for applause. They’re asking for prayer. The prayers don't have to be generic or distant either - they can be informed, faithful intercession. Prayers for breakthrough, for strength, for language learning, for healing, for family, for open doors.

You can start here:
👉 centraldistrict.ca/international-missions

Click a name. Read their story. Then pray like it matters - because it does. Each IW listed there has their own prayer requests, updates, and ways you can connect more personally.

Let’s be the kind of church that walks with our workers every step of their journey.

The future of mission depends on the next generation - and The Alliance Canada knows it. Today we turn a spotlight on one way in which the Alliance is working to build that next generation: through Envision Canada.

Envision is the Alliance’s front door for young adults (ages 18–28) who are sensing a call to missions, ministry, or simply something more. It creates space for discovery, development, and direction - helping people figure out where their passion and God’s global heart meet.

Here’s how it works:

🧳 Placements — Young adults are sent on short-term trips, internships, or 1-year immersions in ministry contexts both in Canada and around the world. Each placement is hosted by experienced leaders and workers who disciple participants on the ground.

🤝 Mentorship — Every Envision participant is personally mentored throughout their journey. It’s not just about tasks - it’s about formation. Leaders walk with them through questions, growth, and even uncertainty.

🌍 Strategic Sites — Locations include urban hubs like Montreal and Vancouver, and international sites across Africa, Asia, and Europe. Every site is tied to Alliance global work, so participants get a real-world glimpse of cross-cultural mission.

🎯 Next Steps — Envision isn’t the end - it’s a launchpad. Many who serve through Envision go on to full-time ministry, join long-term international work, or help lead new ventures here in Canada.

Envision opens real pathways for young adults to explore God’s mission - locally and globally - helping form a generation ready to follow Jesus wherever He leads.
