🧥 The Deacon’s Cupboard Coat Drive 🧥

The Deacon’s Cupboard will be hosting a coat drive this Fall for our guests. In past years, this has been a much needed and appreciated event.

As you are putting away your winter coats and accessories for the summer, ask yourself if it is time for something new.

We are looking for clean and gently worn coats, jackets, warm boots, hats and mitts. If you have something you wish to donate, please keep it until the Fall when we will provide further details about drop off dates.

Many of our guests are from warmer climates and require winter clothing. They are very grateful to receive these items.

📖 Teachable Tomorrow: What Is Service? 📖

Service is often thought of as something large.
Something visible.
Something that requires time, planning, or recognition.

But more often, service is found in the smallest moments.

In showing up.
In paying attention.
In choosing to care.

It might look like offering a kind word.
Taking the time to listen.
Helping quietly, without needing to be noticed.

Service is not about scale.
It is about intention.

It is the way we live out our faith in the everyday — not just in big actions, but in consistent ones.

Moments where we choose to respond with compassion.
Where we make space for someone else.
Where we offer what we have, even if it feels small.

And when those moments begin to add up, something larger takes shape.

A sense of connection.
A deeper awareness of one another.
A community rooted in care.

Service is not separate from faith.
It is an expression of it.

✨ New Associate Priest at St. Peter’s Erindale ✨

With gratitude and great joy, we are delighted to announce that The Rev. Yaa Addison has accepted the call to serve as our new Associate Priest, beginning this September.

Originally from the Washington, DC area, Rev. Yaa holds a degree in Sociology from Gettysburg College and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. She currently serves as Associate Rector at Grace Episcopal Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she oversees faith formation for all ages, youth ministry, and serves as Chaplain to the parish day school. She also serves on the Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.

At the heart of Rev. Yaa’s ministry is a deep commitment to walking alongside people in every season of life and reminding them that they are beloved children of God. Her passion for community, faith formation, and pastoral care will be a tremendous blessing to our parish family.

Please join us in giving thanks to God for this joyful news and in praying for Rev. Yaa and all those preparing for this transition. We are excited for this new chapter in the life of our parish and look forward to welcoming Rev. Yaa to St. Peter’s this fall.

What do we really know about the disciples?

Peter was married and would eventually be crucified. John went on to write much of the New Testament. But there is so much more to their story—and to ours.

In today’s homily, we reflect on Jesus’ deep love and compassion for His followers. He sees their struggles, their fears, and their pain. As we look around our world today, we still see so many who are suffering and in need of hope.

Today is Baptism Day. Have you ever noticed that the baptismal font is located near the church doors? It serves as a reminder that as we leave, we are sent into the world with a mission: to share God’s love and remind others that they are loved by Him.

The disciples were ordinary people who did extraordinary things through God’s grace. The same invitation is extended to us.

Watch today’s homily and be inspired to live out your baptismal calling.

🌿 St. Peter’s Garden Renovation Project 🌿

St. Peter’s gardens have long been a beautiful and meaningful part of our space and history.

Originally designed and renovated in 1970, they have been thoughtfully cared for each year by our dedicated garden ministry team.

We are now excited to share that a proposal for a two-part garden renovation has been presented to the corporation and approved. This redesign will focus on repurposing existing plant material wherever possible, while also embracing low-maintenance and sustainable care for the future.

We are deeply grateful that the full cost of this project has been covered by a generous donor.

We plan to have the first phase of this renovation completed in July 2026.

The Deacon’s Cupboard is in need of small bottles of laundry detergent (798ml/1 litre).

Why the small jug?

It’s because the majority of the people who use the Deacon’s Cupboard are arriving here via transit or walking, so large laundry detergent bottles are too heavy and not easy to transport. Plus they are not easy to store in the Deacon’s Cupboard.

If you can help, please place your donation in the box just outside of the church office that is marked Deacon’s Cupboard.

It is a season that creates space.
Space to reflect.
Space to reconnect.
Space to simply be.

Today we welcomed guest preacher Suzanne Rumsey from Church of the Redeemer, representing Alongside Hope.
Reflecting on God’s call to Abraham, “Go, I will show you”, we heard how Alongside Hope follows that same invitation, journeying in accompaniment, learning, response, and action alongside communities in need. Working with partners to improve wellbeing, Alongside Hope responds to disasters, crises, and extreme need with a commitment to long-term recovery and healing.
