In 1934 the small Slovak community in Toronto, through the intercession of The First Catholic Slovak Union, realized its deep desire for a spiritual leader when in April of that year Father Michael Shuba arrived from Fairport Harbour, Ohio, to become the first parish prie

st for the Slovak faithful in the Diocese of Toronto. Under his dedicated leadership, the first Slovak parish church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, built by the congregation at 34 Claremont St., was blessed on Sunday, November 9th, 1941. Over the following decades the congregation strengthened in faith and numbers, supported by a vibrant and active spiritual and volunteer membership. The church flourished during this period and welcomed its second and third wave of immigrants, until in 1984 it became evident that a move from downtown Toronto to a suburban location should be considered. The last Mass in the old church was celebrated on September 15th, 1993. Vincent Danco, S.J., together with the Parish Council, undertook the difficult task of searching out a new location while at the same time putting into motion the sale of the old church. Finally, in 1993, fund raising began in earnest, the final building plans and budget were approved and construction was started in 1995. The new church at its present location in Mississauga was officially blessed by His Grace Aloysius Ambrosic, Archbishop of Toronto, on Sunday, May 12th, 1996.

Pope Francis established the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, celebrated each year on the fourth Sunday of July.

This year, on July 26, we warmly invite everyone to join us after both Masses for a free cup of coffee and cake as we celebrate and honour our grandparents and the elderly in our community. ❤️

In Slovak:

Svätý Otec František ustanovil Svetový deň starých rodičov a seniorov, ktorý sa slávi každý rok v štvrtú júlovú nedeľu.

Tento rok, 26. júla, srdečne pozývame všetkých, aby sa po oboch svätých omšiach zastavili na bezplatnú kávu a koláč, keď spolu oslávime a uctíme si našich starých rodičov a seniorov v našej komunite. ❤️

😍 HELLOOOO! I’m the Slovak Picnic Poster — and I’m Fabulous! 😁

Yes, it’s me. The most colourful, loud, and excited poster in the entire parish hallway. I’ve been taped to more doors than I can count, and honestly? I look great everywhere.

Let me tell you what I’m screaming about:

• I’m hosting a MASSIVE Slovak Picnic on July 12th, 2026,
• I’ve got a bouncy castle so big it could launch your child into orbit (don’t worry, safely),
• Music! Bring your lawn chairs unless you enjoy standing like a confused flamingo,
• Lunch — because no one wants a hangry Slovak,
• Games, sports, face painting, and a 50/50 draw (may the odds be ever in your favour),
• And of course, Holy Mass at 12:30 PM because even I know we need blessings before the chaos begins,

• Entry? Only $10 — cheaper than your morning Starbucks order.

Pilgrimage to Midland – Sunday, June 14.
On Sunday, June 14 in our church there will be only English Mass at 9:00 am. Program of the pilgrimage in the Shrine will be in Slovak: Holy Mass at 1:00 pm, Way of the Cross followed by picnic. If you would like to attend the pilgrimage and need transportation, please call the parish office. We ordered a bus. The bus is $20 per person including the entrance fee to the Shrine.

Púť do Midlandu – nedeľa, 14. júna.
V nedeľu, 14. júna v našom kostole bude iba anglická omša o 9:00 ráno. Program púte v svätyni bude v slovenčine: svätá omša o 13:00, krížová cesta a potom piknik. Ak sa chcete zúčastniť púte a potrebujete dopravu, zavolajte, prosím, na farský úrad. Objednali sme autobus. Autobus je 20 dolárov na osobu vrátane vstupného do svätyne.

We will be celebrating Corpus Christi on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, with only one Mass at 10:30 AM.
After Mass, we will gather for a community lunch.
Tickets are:
$20 for adults,
$10 for students (including university),
and children under 6 attend for free.

The ticket price includes entrance and lunch; drinks will be available for purchase.

Budeme sláviť Sviatok Božieho Tela v nedeľu 7. júna 2026 a bude iba jedna svätá omša o 10:30.

a deti do 6 rokov majú vstup zdarma.
