Canada Central District Church of the Nazarene

Canada Central District Church of the Nazarene Official Page of The Canada Central District Church of the Nazarene (Ontario). Today the Church of the Nazarene is located in 156 world areas.

The Church of the Nazarene is a Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, tracing its roots to an anniversary date of 1908. It was founded to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living) across the lands. The Church of the Nazarene is a Great Commission church. Our mission is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. We believe that God offers to everyone forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, meaning in life, and the promise of heaven when life is over by entering and experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are called to take this message to people everywhere. The Church of the Nazarene is also a holiness church. We believe that Christians can experience a deeper level of life in which there is victory over sin, power to witness and serve, and a richer fellowship with God, all through the infilling of the Holy Spirit. The Canada Central District geographical area is the Province of Ontario. Our churches are located throughout the province from Ottawa in the east to Windsor to the west to Niagara in the south and Owen Sound in the north.

On Sunday, August 30th, DS Steve and Pat Ottley visited our Quinte West Church of the Nazarene for a significant day in the life of the congregation.

In July, the church experienced the loss of their beloved pastor, Rev. Norm Sheets. During his years of ministry, Pastor Norm invested deeply in the lives of others, including Katrina Sims, a young woman from the congregation who has sensed God’s call to vocational pastoral ministry.

Katrina currently holds a Local Minister’s License and has completed almost half of the courses required for ordination. She continues to faithfully prepare for God’s call upon her life and will appear before the Board of Ministry next March as she seeks her first District Minister’s License.

During the Sunday worship service on August 30th, DS Steve officially appointed Katrina to serve as Lay Minister of Quinte West Church of the Nazarene. This marks an important new chapter for both Katrina and the congregation as they move forward following Pastor Norm’s passing.

Please pray for Katrina as she embraces this new ministry assignment and serves the people of Quinte West. Pray also for the congregation as they walk together through this season of transition and discern God’s direction for the future.

We are also grateful for Pastor Charmaine Kofler and Pastor Mary Phillips, who are walking alongside Katrina as mentors and providing encouragement, guidance, and support during this important season of her ministry journey.

This week we ask you to pray for Niagara Heights Community led by Pastor Tamara Hudson (Terry Hudson).

Please pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the church and community, and for new connections with neighbours and other Christ-followers in Thorold. Pray for the new ESL classes and children’s recreation program starting this month, that they would create meaningful opportunities to connect with and serve the community. Pray also for the new Bible study sessions, that those who take part would be formed and transformed as they grow in their love for God and others.

On Sunday, August 16th, DS Steve and Pat Ottley visited our Owen Sound Church, where Pastor Larry and Pauline faithfully serve. It was a wonderful service, made especially meaningful as the congregation honoured and celebrated Mary Thwaites for an incredible 55 years of service as Church Board Secretary.

Owen Sound Church of the Nazarene is a vibrant congregation located in the heart of the city. We are grateful for Pastor Larry’s leadership and for the many ways the congregation is reaching out and welcoming people into their church family.

One unique expression of their hospitality is a special gift presented to visitors—a bottle of honey featuring the Owen Sound Church label. The label includes a QR code that connects visitors to more information about the church. What a creative and memorable way to extend a warm welcome and help people learn more about the congregation!

In the Church of the Nazarene, responding to a call to pastoral ministry includes a process of preparation, licensing and credentialing.

If you’re sensing a call to ministry, already somewhere in the process, or simply want to understand how it works, join us for our upcoming Credentialing Information Session.

You’ll get a clear overview of the process and hear directly from our District Superintendent Steve Ottley, Dr. Tina Pitamber (Board of Ministry Studies Secretary), and Rev. Tamara Hudson (District Ministry Training Centre Director).

Grief touches every church and every community. This fall, our District NDI is offering a practical way to support those who are grieving.

The Bereavement Journey is a free, 7-week online course for anyone who has experienced the loss of someone they love. Through films and guided conversation, participants have space to process grief, talk honestly and find support and hope alongside others.

We’re inviting our churches to help us spread the word. The course is open to anyone, and you’ll find everything you need to share it with your congregation and community on our website.

Every Christmas, churches across our district come together to send gifts and Christmas greetings north to Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

CHRIST-Mish is a long-standing ministry partnership that gives our churches an opportunity to serve together, build relationships and share the love of Jesus in a practical way.

And Christmas preparations are beginning!

If your church would like to be part of CHRIST-Mish this year, now is the time to get involved. With gifts travelling north, preparations need to begin early and the deadline to participate is October 11.

Markdale GROW Hope

DS Steve and Pat Ottley attended the annual GROW Hope Celebration Weekend on Sunday, August 23. The event celebrates the meaningful partnership between Markdale GROW Hope, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Canada (NCMC), and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Through GROW Hope, funds are raised to plant crops on farmland in the Markdale area. When the crops are harvested and sold, the proceeds are contributed to NCMC’s account with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Through the Government of Canada’s matching program, eligible funds can be matched by as much as 4:1. This means that an acre of crops generating $500 can potentially become $2,500 to support NCMC projects around the world.

The GROW Hope Celebration Weekend was coordinated by Sharon and Wayne Goudy of Markdale Church, in collaboration with the NCMC team.

Saturday’s guest speaker was Sandeep Mukhiya, Executive Director of Riverview Christian Camp. Before moving to Canada, Sandeep served with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Nepal. He is married to Nicky Solis-Mukhiya, who serves as a Project Manager with NCMC.

DS Steve Ottley was the guest speaker for the Sunday morning worship service.

Pastor Mark Coulter brought the message at the Sunday evening closing service. Pastor Mark serves as pastor of three congregations on the Canada Central District: Barrie Ferris Lane, Markdale Community, and Collingwood Erie Street Churches.

The goal for the weekend was to raise enough funds to plant 41 acres. That goal was not only reached—it was significantly surpassed! More than $24,000 was raised, providing funding to plant over 61 acres.

We celebrate the generosity of everyone who participated and give thanks for this partnership that allows something planted in the fields of Markdale to make a difference in the lives of people around the world.
