The feast of St. Monica, the mother of St. Augustine, is celebrated on August 27, followed by the feast of her son, St. Augustine, on August 28. The two consecutive feasts beautifully remind us of the extraordinary bond between a praying mother and a son who eventually became a great saint and Doctor of the Church.

St. Monica stands as a shining example of a mother who never gave up on her child. With ardent prayer, countless tears, patient endurance and profound sacrifices, she persevered in seeking the grace of God for her son Augustine, even when he had wandered far from the faith and become deeply influenced by the attractions and philosophies of the world.

For many years, Monica prayed for Augustine with unwavering hope. She did not allow disappointment, anxiety or the apparent delay in God’s answer to weaken her faith. Her tears became prayers, her sacrifices became offerings, and her perseverance became a testimony of a mother’s unconditional love.

Through the grace of God and the persistent prayers of his mother, Augustine eventually experienced a profound conversion. The young man who had once been carried away by worldly pursuits became a passionate seeker of truth, a faithful servant of Christ, a priest and bishop, and ultimately one of the greatest saints and teachers in the history of the Church.

St. Monica is truly a heroine for mothers. Her life gives courage to every mother who prays for a child who may have drifted away from God, from the faith, or from the values lovingly taught at home. She teaches mothers not to lose heart when their prayers seem unanswered. God’s time is different from ours, and no sincere prayer offered with faith and love is ever wasted.

The feasts of St. Monica and St. Augustine therefore offer a beautiful message to every Christian family: never stop praying for your children. Teach them the faith, accompany them with love, correct them with patience, and above all, entrust them continually into the hands of God.

May every mother who carries a concern for her children find in St. Monica a model, a companion and an inspiration. May her example strengthen mothers to kneel in prayer, to persevere through tears and difficulties, and to trust that God’s grace can transform even the most unlikely situations.

St. Monica, pray for all mothers and families.
St. Augustine, pray for all children who are searching for truth and meaning.

May our homes become schools of faith, prayer and love, and may every family place its hope in the unfailing mercy of God.

ജീവിതത്തിലുടനീളം രോഗങ്ങളും ശാരീരിക ക്ലേശങ്ങളും മാനസിക പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളും അനുഭവിച്ചെങ്കിലും, അവയെ ഒരിക്കലും ശാപമായി കാണാതെ ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ കുരിശിനോട് ചേർത്തുവച്ച് സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ ബലിയായി സമർപ്പിച്ചവൾ.

വേദനയെ പരാജയമായും ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ അർത്ഥശൂന്യതയായും കാണുന്ന, ചെറിയ പ്രയാസങ്ങൾ പോലും അസഹനീയമായി തോന്നുന്ന, സുഖവും ജീവിത സൗകര്യങ്ങളും മാത്രം ജീവിതലക്ഷ്യമായി മാറുന്ന ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ , അൽഫോൻസായുടെ ജീവിതം നമ്മെ മറ്റൊരു സത്യത്തിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുന്നു: ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പം സ്വീകരിക്കുന്ന വേദന ആത്മാവിനെ വിശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുകയും ജീവിതത്തിന് ആഴമേറിയ അർത്ഥം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

വേദന ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ അവസാനവാക്കല്ല; ദൈവം അതിനെ അനുഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ മാർഗമാക്കാൻ കഴിയും.
പ്രാർത്ഥനയും ക്ഷമയും വിശ്വാസവും ചേർന്നാൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കുരിശും അനുഗ്രഹമാകുന്നു.
മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ നന്മയ്ക്കായി സ്വന്തം കഷ്ടതകൾ സമർപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ ജീവിതം ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിഫലനമാകുന്നു.
സുഖസൗകര്യങ്ങളെക്കാൾ വിശുദ്ധിയാണ് മനുഷ്യജീവിതത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥ ലക്ഷ്യം.

അൽഫോൻസായുടെ തിരുനാൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവളുടെ അത്ഭുതങ്ങളെക്കാൾ അവളുടെ ആത്മീയതയാണ് നാം ഏറ്റെടുക്കേണ്ടത്. ഓരോ വേദനയിലും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം കണ്ടെത്താനും, ഓരോ കുരിശിനെയും വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണുകളിലൂടെ കാണാനും, ഓരോ കണ്ണുനീരും രക്ഷാകരമായ സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ സമർപ്പണമാക്കാനും സാധിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ്, അതിനായി പരിശ്രമിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് ആ കന്യാസ്ത്രീ ഒരു പ്രചോദനവും അനുഗ്രഹവുമായി മാറുക.
