Instead, Jesus makes a way for relationships to be restored.

Good morning, everyone! Here is your Knox Notes Summary:
Pastor Nick provided this: Take up Your Cross and Follow Me - Matthew 16:21-28

"Peter got it so right when he said that Jesus was “the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). Then he got it so wrong by trying to prevent Jesus from going to the cross. Who can blame Peter? Jesus does, and says, “get behind me, Satan!” (16:23). Peter got it so wrong because of how he saw the Messiah. He thought Jesus would be a war king like David. He thought the Messiah would come into Jerusalem to kick butt and kick the Romans out. Maybe Peter thought that because the Messiah was somebody, that he too could be somebody. Instead, Jesus predicts His own death.

Jesus went to the cross willingly. We too are called to take up the cross. It’s not a nice sentiment, but a gritty reality. Following Jesus, like anything good in this life, requires sacrifice. When Jesus says to you “follow me,” Jesus calls you to die to yourself. “Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it” (16:24-25)."

Please join Lakeview Cemetery, Midland on Sunday, September 20th, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm, for their 3rd Annual Cemetery Walk.

Details below.

Please join us on Sunday, Sept 20th from 2pm - 4pm for our 3rd annual Cemetery Walk! Donations are appreciated!

We will visit the graves of a number of people to tell their stories and acknowledge their place in history! We even have a few guest speakers to join us! All are welcome! We will meet on the north road just past the office under the tree. Hope to see you there!

Recently, the Gift of Grace Soup Kitchen guests received care packages which were assembled by the youth attending St. Paul's United Church Discovery Kids Camp. The packages consisted of bottled water, playing cards, gum, a granola bar, cookies, and a hand-drawn card from a youth.

The Soup Kitchen volunteers and guests express their gratitude for these thoughtful care packages.

Pastor Nick provided this summary: Who is Jesus? Matthew 16:13-20

“Word on the streets was that Jesus was a teacher, a prophet, or maybe even Elijah or John the Baptist. So, Jesus asks the disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Your neighbour might say that Jesus was a morally good person like Ghandi or Mr. Rogers. But C.S. Lewis demonstrated that Jesus was not merely a good person. He was either a lunatic, a liar, or Jesus is LORD. Jesus claimed to be God.

Either what He said was true, or it wasn’t. Lunatic doesn’t seem feasible. People with untreated psychosis don’t speak healing to leave people changed for the better, and neither do they leave enduring wisdom for the ages. When wanting to make fun of Jesus, the makers of The Life of Brian realized that there was profound wisdom in the Bible that has stood the test of time. Liar doesn’t make sense either. Con-artists and self-serving folks have angles. Jesus had a mission. That mission meant long hours, lack of sleep, self-sacrifice, and ultimately crucifixion. LORD is the best option.

I’ll stand with Peter and the historic church to say of Jesus that “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God” (16:17).”

Good morning, everyone! Here is this weeks Knox Notes Summary:

Pastor Nick provided this summary: So Much More than Scraps Matthew 15:10-28

"The 'Canaanite' woman got so much more than just scraps from under the table. She got the full experience of the kingdom of God. Her daughter was healed, and Jesus demonstrated that God's reign would spread to all nations.

Some take this passage to mean that Jesus was wrong -- that this woman somehow changed Jesus' mind. When God challenges us, it's for our benefit and not God's. God's plan was always to bring in the gentiles. Jesus knew that. Think about Jesus' own family tree with His ancestors Rahab and Ruth. Think about His encounter with the Roman Centurion. Now we have this encounter with Jesus outside of His home turf. He's the foreigner on foreign soil. Not the woman. In spite of geographical, social, and national barriers, the woman finds her prayers of desperation answered in Christ. She lays down her ego and presses into Jesus to find what she truly needs."

The Gift of Grace Soup Kitchen received a Town of Midland Community Grant to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from local vendors.

This grant allows the Soup Kitchen to offer clients fresh fruit and vegetables with the aim to improve diets and promote better health. Food insecurity is an issue for many in our community and the hope is this offering will help in a small way for those who are hungry.

The Gift of Grace Soup Kitchen is run solely by volunteers as a mission of Knox Presbyterian Church and serves up to 50 people weekly on Tuesday mornings in the basement of St. Paul's United Church, Midland.
