Overview:

Martyrs’ Shrine: A Historical Portrait is a landmark new volume tracing four centuries of faith, encounter, upheaval, rediscovery and pilgrimage in the heart of historic Wendake.

Created to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Jesuit mission in Wendake and the 100th anniversary of Martyrs’ Shrine, this 268-page hardcover combines historical research, archival photography, spiritual reflection and rarely seen historical material in a single substantial volume.

The book follows the story from the seventeenth-century Jesuit missions and the Wendat and Haudenosaunee, through the destruction and rediscovery of the Wendake mission, to the building of today’s Martyrs’ Shrine and the pilgrimages that shaped its history.

With its 10 × 13-inch format, the book is presented as a premium hardcover edition with a full dust jacket. It was created not simply as a Centennial publication, but as a lasting reference and commemorative object for generations to come.

Last Friday, August 21, we were blessed with an unforgettable evening of sacred music featuring award-winning organist Stephen Boda and international soprano Karoline Podolak.

A huge thank you to our amazing performers for sharing their beautiful talents with us, and to everyone who joined us for our Summer Concert Series. It was wonderful to see so many of you there!

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, we gathered in joy to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption with a special Mass presided by Fr. Jeffrey Burwell, S.J., Provincial Superior of the Jesuits of Canada. This was also a special occasion as we celebrated the Final Vow of Fr. John O’Brien, S.J., Director of Martyrs’ Shrine. ��

We thank everyone who joined us for this beautiful celebration.

For Jesuits, Mary has always been a companion on the mission. St. Ignatius of Loyola had a deep devotion to her, entrusting his life and ministry to her care. Inspired by her example, Jesuits seek to discern God's will, accompany others with compassion, and help people find God in all things.

On this feast, may Mary intercede for us, strengthening our own "yes" to God's call and leading us ever closer to her Son.
