Today we went out together as St. John's Anglican Church Craighurst and St. Paul's Anglican Church to go an pick wild garlic mustard, an invasive species in the Copeland Forest. (The roots kill off other microorganism in the soil and can quickly eliminate other plants if unmanaged).

We did this with one of our parishioners, Margaret who is involved with the Copeland Forest Friends. We picked 6 bags of this plant in a number of patches as we hiked. And we also learned to identify a wide range of other native species.

We do this work, As part of our baptismal covenant, and as part of the broader The Communion Forest movement. We committed ourselves back at vestry and are glad to do the work of restoring and protecting our ecosystem locally!

We also regularly worship in community with creation as part of our Hiking Church, our next one is on June 20th send an email to register to [email protected]

Back at Vestry we commited ourselves to participate in the work of the The Communion Forest especially by partnering with local agencies in our community, as part of our Social Justice Vestry motion.

On Tuesday June 9th, (with a rain date of June the 10th), we are going to join one of our parishioners and hiking church members for a morning of pulling Garlic Mustard out of the Copeland Forest. This invasive species crowds out space for many native wildflowers and can rapidly take over fields and forests. We do this to do the work of Protecting and Restoring a part of our local ecosystem.

While we do this work, Margaret has promised to help us learn about the other native wildflowers and plants that are a part of our local forest, and maybe even suggest a good couple recipes for eating this invasive plant.

To Sign up Email [email protected] (I will send out location and details for which lot of the copeland forest we are meeting at).
