Holy Trinity in Merrickville Launches ‘Honour System’ In-Door Garage Sale
Holy Trinity has been participating in the annual Merrickville Community Garage Sale held the first Saturday of May come rain or shine, for many years now. They decided to continue a smaller in-door version of the annual sale and based on the honour system. It’s been a resounding success and is now in it’s second year. It’s a small fundraiser for the church earning about $100 monthly. Not a large sum, but the success is in the joy it brings its buyers! And it’s a place for people to donate items they no longer want and into the hands of those who could use them. Items are regularly donated, sorted, priced and put on display. A money jar sits atop the shelving unit for the buyers to put their payment. It’s been so successful, a second display unit was added this year. And who are the buyers you may be asking yourself: parishioners, people attending the weekly Community Coffee Hour, hall renters – anyone visiting the church throughout the week.
