Gordon H. MacGregor Obituary
June 8, 1954 - October 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon H. MacGregor, age 72, of Big Island, Nova Scotia, on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Gordon was a kind, patient, and hardworking man who lived his life guided by strong values and a deep love for his family. An electrician by trade, he took great pride in his work and believed in doing things the right way, never taking shortcuts simply because they were easier. But it was the sea that truly captured his heart. Born and raised on Big Island, Gordon spent much of his life lobster fishing and loved nothing more than being out on the water. His love of boats went hand in hand with his passion for fishing, and he never passed up an opportunity to stop and admire a boat, no matter the detour.
Above all, Gordon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. He taught them to drive, took them on four-wheeler rides and out on the boat, and travelled countless miles to be there for their big moments, cheering them on from the sidelines and in the audience. He will be remembered for his kindness, his strong principles, and the love he showed through the time he gave so generously to those who mattered most.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda MacGregor; his daughter, Carla (Yuri) Visser; his son, Alex MacGregor; his cherished grandchildren, Nicole MacGregor, Mikaela Visser, and Zander Visser; his brothers, Lloyd (Angela), Byron (Helen), and Robert (Irene) MacGregor; his sister, Joyce (Jim) Howard; his sisters-in-law, Sharon, Cathy, Dolores (Bill), Tracie (Pat), and Valerie (Richard); his brother-in-law, Stephen (Alice); and many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Helen MacGregor; his brother, Lyall MacGregor; his parents-in-law, Charles and Yvonne Young; his brother-in-law, Tommy Young; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Long and Leona Holley; and his nephew, Bradly Vacheresse.
Gordon will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. His love, guidance, and the memories he created will be treasured always.
Visitation will take place at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Merigomish on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Bonnie Wynn officiating.
