During the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost, our Interim Priest-in-charge, the Ven. Judy Walton blessed a sea of backpacks donated by parishioners which will be taken to Georgian Bay Community School the first day of school (tomorrow). The service was followed by a wonderful birthday celebration of long-time parishioner, John Watchurst. His family and friends were all present and enjoyed a toast as well as special birthday cakes.
We hope GBCS students have an awesome year! And Happy Birthday, John!

Today, to mark the 80th anniversary of the dedication of our WWII Memorial Windows by The Rev. Harold Appleyard in 1946, we held a service of rededication of the windows and of the memorial collection plates. We also dedicated the propeller blade belonging to parishioner Sgt. George Stevenson’s downed WWII aircraft, newly repatriated from Scotland.

Today we thanked God for the opportunity to remember and prayed that we would be changed - to be broken open for the love and sake of our neighbours.

Both the Appleyard and Stevenson families were in attendance, along with members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Regiment of Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the government of the Municipality of Meaford.

Our thanks to The Rev. Canon Dr. Grayhame Bowcott and Major the Rev. Bob Lay for their assistance in the service, as well as the Goldenaires for lending their voices.

Yesterday at Christ Church, the GUM Gallery held “Art in the Pews” - a contemporary art show. The subject of the show was Christ Church, itself: its building, memorial windows, the new propeller memorial, its traditions, and its stories - old and new.

We were so thankful for all from Meaford who came, looked, explored, heard stories and took in all the varied art and its meaning.

Our parish’s Licensed Lay Readers, John Howard and Francis Richardson, travelled to Kingston for a Lay Readers’ conference, hosted by the Diocese of Ontario.

Lifelong learning and growth are so important to our shared Christian life. We’re thankful they have gone to learn and will gift that learning back to us and our parish.

This week, we are kicking off our $325,000 “Keep the Bells Ringing in Meaford” Campaign to repair our bell tower. Since 1868, Christ Church’s bell has rung out across Meaford as part of the soundscape of our town, calling people to prayer, celebrating marriages, mourning our departed loved ones.

Now, 158 years later, we need your help to repair our bell tower and to keep the bells ringing in Meaford.

Please consider donating today (https://www.paypal.com/CA/fundraiser/charity/3424009) or by making a pledged gift over time. Even the smallest gift helps so much.

Thank you for all your assistance!

Marking the windows’ 80th anniversary, we will also be dedicating as part of the memorial a propeller blade from the downed aircraft of Sgt. George Stevenson, a parishioner and the first citizen of Meaford killed in WWII.
