Bringing together identity, culture, and spirituality, The United Church of Canada’s Indigenous and Racialized Young Scholars program is creating space for young people to share wisdom, challenge colonial narratives, and shape the church’s future.

The Young Scholars program was held this year from May 10 to July 17, with three Indigenous and three Racialized youth participating. This autumn, the young scholars will present their research findings during online events to local communities of faith, allowing United Church communities to learn from and absorb these important perspectives together.

Communities of faith are encouraged to consider hosting an event or webinar featuring one or more Indigenous and Racialized Young Scholars.

Loving God,
On this Labour Day, we give thanks for all who work to provide the things we need to live, and for the many ways that our labour contributes to the life of our communities and our world.

We give thanks for the witness of organized labour and unions, who remind us of the power of solidarity and our shared responsibility to safeguard fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity for every worker.

Bless workers with strength, safety and dignity. Bless employers and leaders with wisdom, fairness, and care. May all who have power use it to create workplaces and communities where everyone can flourish.

May our shared labour, and our commitment to justice, help bring about your vision of peace, dignity, and abundant life for all.

And remind us, O God, that in you, our labour is not in vain.

* Tues., Sept 8 (3:30-5:00 PM): Graceland After-School Youth Café reopens for the new school year! We welcome volunteers to sign up for an afternoon when you’re available to help serve snacks and engage with our young students. Snack donations—such as cookies, muffins, fruit, or vegetables—are always appreciated!

* Next Sun., Sept 13 (11:00 AM): Sunday School Kick-off Celebration with hot dog lunch hosted by the Christian Education (CE) Committee.
