Greetings in the Lord!

We are blessed to have Dr. Vicky Warkentien as the conductor for our 43rd Annual Mass Choir Music Worship Service. We will be presenting Handel’s Messiah. If you are a born-again Christian actively serving in your church’s music ministry, you are welcome to join us.

Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, September 7, and continue every Sunday evening (7:00–9:30 pm) at Toronto Chinese Methodist Church (8 Metropolitan Road, Scarborough), except for Thanksgiving weekend.

The Music Worship Service will take place on Saturday, November 29, 3:30 pm, at Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church.

We are excited to invite you to a hands-on workshop designed specifically for church musicians:

*Workshop: Mastering MuseScore*
This immersive training will help equip you to serve with greater confidence and creativity in your music ministry.

What You’ll Learn:

-Basics of score writing: entering notes, articulations, lyrics, and more
-Creating rehearsal aids for choir practice
-Essential keyboard shortcuts for efficient MuseScore use

No prior experience with MuseScore is required, but general computer literacy is expected. Participants must bring their own laptop and charger, and download the latest MuseScore software beforehand: https://musescore.org/en/download

The workshop will be conducted primarily in English, with support available in Cantonese and Mandarin as needed.

【永永遠遠的《彌賽亞》：神劇、信仰、傳唱】主題講座暨工作坊

《彌賽亞》神劇歷久彌新，也是本會年度聖樂崇拜之重點曲目。適逢今年第43屆迎來我們第十次唱頌此曲，特設主題講座暨工作坊以加深大家對此經典的理解和體驗，並鼓勵各詩班成員參與本屆聯合獻唱。講座第一節將概述韓德爾此作的曲式，及其信仰與文化脈絡；第二節則回顧本曲自1742年首演以來的流傳與唱習簡史；最後為實作環節，從技巧與風格的角度，共同排練關鍵選段。

講員簡介
金立群，維也納大學音樂學博士。生於香港，少年信主，在教會音樂的事奉上啟蒙自謝禮明牧師、鄭棣聲教授（深水埗浸信會）及尹慶樑牧師（香港男聲聖詠團），後短期受教於凌忍揚博士與唐佑之牧師，感恩不盡。維也納畢業後多年任教於台灣交通大學及台灣大學，2010年秋並客座於香港大學。1995年曾指揮促進會第十三屆聯合詩班獻唱布拉姆斯《德意志安魂曲》。

The timeless oratorio 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘩 is a cornerstone of ATCECM's repertoire. As we are going to celebrate our 43rd annual worship and tenth performance of this classic, we will host a special lecture and workshop aimed at enriching our understanding and experience of this beloved work while encouraging church choir members to join this year’s mass choir. The lecture will delve into Handel’s oratorio, exploring its musical structure alongside its spiritual and cultural significance, and will also trace the history of its performances and reception since its premiere in 1742. The workshop session will then focus on refining key excerpts with attention to technique and style.

About the Speaker
Dr. KAM Lap Kwan was born in Hong Kong and became a Christian in his youth. He is deeply grateful for the mentorship that has shaped his service in church music, initially provided by Rev. Raymond Tse, Professor Stanley Cheng (Sham Shui Po Baptist Church), and Rev. Walter Wan (The Singing Churchmen of Hong Kong), and subsequently complemented by the short-term guidance from Dr. Richard Lin and Rev. Samuel Tang. After earning his PhD in musicology from the University of Vienna, Kam taught for decades at National Chiao Tung University and National Taiwan University, and also at the University of Hong Kong as a visiting faculty in the fall of 2010. In 1995, he conducted ATCECM’s 13th annual Mass Choir, presenting Brahms’ 𝘎𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘦𝘮.

《約瑟的啟示》是一部以舊約聖經人物約瑟的故事為題材的聖樂作品，歌詞取自聖經，並由風琴與銅管樂隊伴奏，這是首部以廣東話創作的神曲。誠邀各位參加聯合詩班的聖樂崇拜，透過這部作品思想神的兒子耶穌基督，以及神為世人所預備的救恩。

*Mass Choir 2024 - Online Registration is Now Open*

The 42nd Annual Mass Choir Music Worship will be held on November 30 (Saturday), at 4 pm at Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church. The Choir will present "A Revelation of Joseph" (《約瑟的啟示》) by An-lun Huang. This oratorio will be sung in Cantonese. If you are a reborn Christian and serve in your church's music ministry, you are welcome to join us. Rehearsal will commence on September 8, every Sunday thereafter, 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm at Toronto Chinese Methodist Church.

We are blessed to have Dr. Liping Xia (夏莉萍博士) to lead a masterclass for church musicians. Dr. Xia will share some technical aspects of congregational worship for worship leaders and pianists, and provide one-on-one coaching to three groups of active participants (each group consisting of one pianist and one worship leader) in each session.

There is limited availability for this Masterclass so all non-observing participants are encouraged to register early. There is an option to register for single or both sessions. Session 1 will focus on Traditional Hymns, while Session 2 will focus on Contemporary Hymns. All pianists will need to submit a short worship recording (video or audio) to demonstrate their piano skills by July 14, 2024. You may also choose to participate as an observer.
