Chapel Place Church English Ministry

Chapel Place Church English Ministry Dedicated to seeking truth and a loving community. Chapel Place exists to pursue the truth and experience true lasting joy.

We firmly believe both are exclusively found in the Triune God of Christianity. Therefore, we are devoted to the careful study and application of the Bible, God's inerrant self-revelation to us. We also desire to cultivate a culture of mutual care, compassion, and genuine worship through our services, personal relationships, and small groups. [By, “it is finished”] the Saviour meant that the satisfaction which he rendered to the justice of God was finished. The debt was now, to the last farthing, all discharged. The atonement and propitiation were made once for all, and for ever, by the one offering made in Jesus’ body on the tree. There was the cup; hell was in it; the Saviour drank it—not a sip and then a pause; not a draught and then a ceasing; but he drained it till there is not a dreg left for any of his people. The great ten-thonged whip of the law was worn out upon his back; there is no lash left with which to smite one for whom Jesus died. The great cannonade of God’s justice has exhausted all its ammunition; there is nothing left to be hurled against a child of God. Sheathed is thy sword, O Justice! Silenced is thy thunder, O Law! There remaineth nothing now of all the griefs, and pains, and agonies which chosen sinners ought to have suffered for their sins, for Christ has endured all for his own beloved, and “it is finished.” Charles H. Spurgeon

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.” Matthew‬ ‭27‬:‭45‬-‭50‬ ‭

Consider the depth of Christ’s love.
His groaning, His grief, His betrayal, and the insults He endured.
On a cross, a crown of thorns pressed into His head, His hands and feet pierced, His back torn and bloodied, His body stretched, struggling with each breath.

And yet, the deepest stroke that pierced Him was not the nails or the thorns, but the stroke that justice gave.

Here, we see the consequence of our sin clearly, and the cost of our redemption fully. This is what sin demands, and what Christ has endured.

See Him on the cross. Stricken, smitten, and afflicted.

“He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief,
and as one from whom men hide their faces,
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:3–5

Lift your eyes to heaven and behold the Holy One, eternal and exalted in glory.

“The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.” Psalm 103:19

Now see this same King crowned with thorns, giving Himself in the place of sinners.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24

Now behold Him lifted up, the Lamb who reigns in splendor, His kingdom without end.

“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

How worthy is the King in all His beauty.

Come and look to the cross. See Christ crucified in our place, bearing the wrath of God on our behalf. This is love. Come, sit in the weight of it, and consider what He has done for us in love.

“The Good News is that for all of us—the impure, the broken, the religious, the irreligious—wherever you find yourself in your relationship with the God who made you, Jesus offers Himself and welcomes you to turn to Him and to find life in His name.” - Rev. Dr. Lyndon Jost

Oh, the wonder of this awesome scene
Where our Saviour bleeds
Oh, the power of the love of God
Come and stand in awe!

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

As He entered Jerusalem, He came in humility — not to take a throne, but to carry a cross. In love, He intentionally walked into the city He knew would reject Him, in order to stand in the place of sinners and secure their salvation.

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:35

“He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8
