👸🏻Our Lady of Prompt Succor 🙏 for us.
🎉Feast day January 8th
😇Patron Saint of 👇🏼
🇺🇸Louisiana, USA
⚜️Archdiocese and City of New Orleans

⛪️🏫In 1727, French Ursuline nuns founded a monastery in New Orleans, Louisiana, and organized their area schools from it.
🇪🇸In 1763 Louisiana became a Spanish possession, and Spanish sisters came to assist.
🇫🇷In 1800 the territory reverted back to France, and the Spanish sisters fled in the face of French anti - Catholicsm.
👩🏻‍🏫In 1803, short on teachers, Mother Saint Andre Madier requested more sisters from France. Mother Saint Michel, was running a Catholic boarding school for girls and she was given permission to appeal to the pope. The pope was a prisoner of Napoleon, and it seemed unlikely he would even receive her letter.
🙏🏻Mother Saint Michel prayed “O most Holy Virgin Mary, if you obtain for me a prompt and favorable answer to this letter, I promise to have you honored at New Orleans under the title of Our Lady of Prompt Succor.”
📩Against all odds, she was granted her request, and Mother Saint Michel, commissioned a statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor holding the Infant Jesus.
🇫🇷➡️⚜️Mother Saint Michel and several postulants came to New Orleans on 31 December 1810. They brought the statue with them, and placed it in the monastery chapel.
👸🏻Since then, Our Lady of Prompt Succor has interceded for those who have sought her help.
🔥A great fire threatened the Ursuline monastery in 1812. A lay sister brought the statue to the window.
🙏🏻Mother Saint Michel prayed “Our Lady of Prompt Succor, we are lost if you do not come to our aid.”
🌬The wind changed direction, turned the fire away, and saved the monastery.
⚜️Our Lady interceded again at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Many faithful, including wives and daughters of American soldiers, gathered in the Ursuline chapel before the statue and spent the night before in prayer. Andrew Jackson and 200 men won a victory over a superior British force in a 25 minute battle and saw few American casualties.
💨It’s still customary for the devout of New Orleans to pray before a statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor whenever a hurricane threatens.

Happy feast day of the Baptism of the Lord👇🏼
7 In the course of his preaching he (John the Baptist) said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.
8 I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'
9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.
10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him.
11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'
Mark 1:6-11

Brother Andre (who’s feast day is today) was inspired by a devotion that he heard was already being practiced in France. He took a bit of oil from a lamp that was burning in front of a statue of Saint Joseph. He offered it to sick people telling them to rub it on their aching body and to pray to Saint Joseph for relief.

This tradition continues today at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal (Montreal, Quebec, Canada). A basin containing ordinary vegetable oil is fixed in front of a statue of Saint Joseph, and a wick, floating on the surface, burns night and day as a kind of perpetual votive lamp. The oil is then put in bottles and made available to pilgrims.

Saint Joseph Oil is not a treatment. Nor is it a preparation with curative powers, to say nothing of a magical practice. It must be viewed as a gesture of faith.

👨🏻‍🦳Saint André Bessette 🙏 for us.
🎉Feast day January 6
🗓1845-1937
📍Born in Mont-Saint-Gregoire, Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦

👦🏻Son of a woodcutter, and eighth of twelve children. His father died in a work-related accident, his mother of tuberculosis, and he was adopted at age twelve by a farmer uncle who insisted he work for his keep.
👨🏻‍🌾👞🥖⚙️Over the years Andre worked as a farmhand, shoemaker, baker, blacksmith, and factory worker.
✝️At 25 he applied to join the Congregation of the Holy Cross; Andre was initially refused due to poor health, but he gained the backing of Bishop Bourget, and was accepted.
🚪Doorkeeper at Notre Dame College, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
⛪️🧺✉️Sacristan, laundry worker and messenger.
🧔🏻He spent much of each night in prayer, and on his window sill, facing Mount Royal, was a small statue of Saint Joseph, to whom Andre was especially devoted. "Some day, Andre believed, "Saint Joseph will be honored on Mount Royal.
😷Andre had a special ministry to the sick. He would rub the sick person with oil from a lamp in the college chapel, and many were healed.
🏫Word of his power spread, and when an epidemic broke out at a nearby college, Andre volunteered to help; no one died.
🤒😷🤕The trickle of sick people to his door became a flood. His superiors were uneasy; diocesan authorities were suspicious; doctors called him a quack. "I do not cure, he always said; "Saint Joseph cures.
📝By his death, he was receiving 80,000 letters each year from the sick who sought his prayers and healing.
✝️🏞For many years the Holy Cross authorities had tried to buy land on Mount Royal.
🏅🏡Brother Andre and others climbed the steep hill and planted medals of Saint Joseph on it, and soon after, the owners yielded, which incident helped the current devotion to Saint Joseph by those looking to buy or sell a home.
💰⛪️Andre collected money to build a small chapel and received visitors there, listening to their problems, praying, rubbing them with Saint Joseph's oil, and curing many. The chapel is still in use.

“I realized my sinfulness; I was seized with a great fear of being damned, and I shed a flood of tears. I went to confession to be relieved of my sins, but through shame I concealed the most grievous ones, but still I went to Communion. Now my conscience tortured me day and night. I called upon St. Francis for help, and, moved by an inner impulse, I went into a church where a Franciscan Father was then preaching."

It is reported that in the year 1285 she had a vision of both the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Francis of Assisi, who called her to penance.

“I gathered courage to confess all my sins to him, and I did this immediately after the sermon. With zeal and perseverance I performed the penance he imposed, but my heart continued to be full of bitterness and shame. I recognized that the divine mercy has saved me from hell, hence I resolved to do rigorous penance; nothing seemed too difficult for me, because I felt I belonged in hell. I called upon the saints, and especially upon the Blessed Virgin, to intercede with God for me.” Continues 👇🏼

😷In 1288, not too long after her conversion, her mother, husband, and sons died of a plague.
👩🏼As a widow, Angela was free to concentrate on her pursuit of holiness. She modeled herself on St. Francis of Assisi and joined the Franciscan Third Order in 1291.
