The Church's one foundation | Hymn | Accompaniment | Piano | Lyrics |

The Church's One Foundation by Samuel Stone was written in 1866 in response to a controversy surrounding Bishop John Colenso in South Africa, who challenged traditional biblical authority. Stone's hymn was part of his Lyra Fidelium series, which explained the articles of the Apostles' Creed, and it addresses the ninth article, "The Holy Catholic Church". The hymn's lyrics reflect the church's unity in Christ despite divisions and heresies, and it is often set to the tune "Aurelia" by Samuel Sebastian Wesley.

1. The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is his new creation,
By water and the word;
From Heav'n he came and sought her
To be his holy bride;
With his own blood he bought her,
And for her life he died.

2. Elect from ev'ry nation,
Yet one o'er all the Earth,
Her charter of salvation
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With ev'ry grace endued.

3. 'Mid toil and tribulation
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace forever more;
Till with the vision glorious
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

4. O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we
Like them, the meek and lowly,
On high may dwell with thee;
There, past the border mountains,
Where in sweet vales, the bride
With thee, by living fountains,
Forever shall abide!

This is my Father's world | Hymn | Accompaniment | Piano | Lyrics |

This Is My Father's World originated as a sixteen-stanza poem by Presbyterian pastor Maltbie Babcock in 1901, inspired by his walks along the Niagara Escarpment and his saying, "I'm going out to see my Father's world". After Babcock's death, his wife compiled his writings, and in 1915, his friend Franklin L. Sheppard set the poem's text to music using the tune Terra Beata, forming the hymn known today.

1. This is my Father's world,
And to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas--
His hand the wonders wrought.

2. This is my Father's world:
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker's praise.
This is my Father's world:
He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.

3. This is my Father's world:
O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the Ruler yet.
This is my Father's world:
Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King: let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let earth be glad!

All the way my Savior leads me | Hymn | Accompaniment | Piano | Lyrics |

All the Way My Savior Leads Me was written by F***y Crosby in 1875 after a stranger gave her the exact amount of money she needed to pay her rent, following her prayer for help. The experience confirmed her faith in God's provision, and she wrote the poem, which became the lyrics for this beloved hymn, reflecting her lifelong trust in God's guidance despite her blindness and life's challenges.

1. All the way my Savior leads me.
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt his tender mercy,
Who thru' life has been my Guide?
Heav'nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus fashions all things well.

2. All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for ev’ry trial,
Feeds me with the living Bread.
Tho' my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.

3. All the way my Savior leads me;
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, cloth'd immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song thru' endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.

Just as I am without one plea | Hymn | Accompaniment | Piano | Lyrics |

YouTube link: https://youtu.be/pbwJ1-K841g?si=JrMSWLSfIh7RxHmK

Just As I Am without one plea was written by Charlotte Elliott in 1835, inspired by a moment of despair over her physical inability to help with a church fundraiser, but also by a pastor's reassurance that she was loved "just as she was". The hymn expresses the idea that a sinner can come to God without any personal merit or offering, relying only on the cleansing blood of Christ. The hymn later became a signature hymn for Billy Graham's evangelistic crusades, solidifying its place in evangelical tradition.

1. Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidd'st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

2. Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

3. Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

4. Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

All hail the power of Jesus Name | Hymn | Accompaniment | Piano | Lyrics |

All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name involves missionary E.P. Scott in India, who, upon being surrounded by hostile tribal warriors, played his violin and sang the hymn. The music and lyrics moved the warriors to lower their weapons, tears falling from their eyes, and they became receptive to his message of the gospel. Scott then stayed with the tribe, ministering to them for two years and leading many to Christianity.

1. All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!

2. O seed of Israel's chosen race
now ransomed from the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all.
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all!

3. Let every tongue and every tribe
responsive to his call,
to him all majesty ascribe,
and crown him Lord of all.
To him all majesty ascribe,
and crown him Lord of all!

4. Oh, that with all the sacred throng
we at his feet may fall!
We'll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
We'll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.

HYMN is a lyrical poem or song of praise, typically addressing a deity or a sacred subject. It can also refer to the text of such a song, which is often sung in a religious service to express devotion or worship. Beyond its religious use, the term can metaphorically describe any text or work that strongly praises or celebrates something, like a novel being a hymn to childhood.
