Over the past 24 hours, we have been reminded that the work of Truth and Reconciliation is not simply about confronting a painful history. It is about confronting realities that are still with us.

Today at St. Paul’s Cathedral, we choose to gather differently.

To listen.
To learn.
To remember.
To honour survivors and the children who never came home.
And to stand alongside our Indigenous neighbours.

There is still much truth to hear and much work to do.

This Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with the Blessing of the Animals at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

After fulfilling a life of service to his country, fellow citizens and his brothers and sisters-in-Christ, Roland Vishnu, was called home to his Lord in his 97th year on Earth. He died on the morning of September 13, 2026, at University Hospital in London, Ontario.

It is with sadness that we share news of the death of our dear brother in Christ, Roland Vishnu, who died today, September 13, at the age of 96.

Roland was a much-loved member of the St. Paul’s Cathedral community, and we give thanks to God for his long life, his faith, and for all the ways his presence enriched our life together.

We hold Roland’s family and all who loved him in our prayers in these days of grief.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and we will share details as they become available.

March 4, 1930 – September 13, 2026

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord,
and let light perpetual shine upon him.

“You can’t eat the Body of Christ and stay the same.”

That line from Sara Miles has stayed with me.

Because if what we do on Sunday is real — if the bread we break really does draw us into the Body of Christ — then worship can never simply be something we attend.

It sends us back into the world differently.

More attentive to our neighbours.
More concerned about hungry bodies.
More willing to love, serve, forgive, welcome, and risk something for the sake of another.

At St. Paul’s Cathedral, we’re trying to discover together what it means to follow Jesus at the heart of the city — and to allow that following to change us.
