*Day 93* : Shanti — forbearance. An ability to suffer silently the little pinpricks of the body. In the world, no arrangement can be perfect. Little, little disturbances and sufferings will be there.

It is too hot. Full stop. It is cold in winter. Full stop. Little thing, making it a huge problem. A theme to discuss and waste time. Does it become warm after all that discussion? You become more cold. Winter is cold. Full stop. I don't like cold. Get out — instead of complaining.

A spiritual student must be able to live above these little pinpricks of life. Live in a cheerful attitude. That these little disturbances is so below my dignity to complain and give even a second thought to it.

When I desire a thing, my mind's thoughts are running towards it. And when an obstacle comes between me and the object desired, my thoughts instead of reaching peacefully my object of desire, gets diverted at that obstacle. This angle of deviation created for desire and against the obstruction is called anger.

When once this mind is agitated, then I can't hear the warnings that the intellect is giving me — that don't do this, don't do it, don't. I can't hear. And I hug the body and run towards the object.

When the mind is pacified, the mind returns back to its normal condition and goes near the intellect and the intellect starts asking questions. Such self-insulting actions are called sins.

Day 91 : Can anyone say that I am very happy, but I am agitated? It is a contradiction.

When you are calm and quiet within, joy and happiness alone can be our experience. And whenever we are joyous and happy, there cannot be any agitations of the mind.

Quieter the mind, greater the happiness. But the mind must be rendered quiet. And therefore, controlling the mind and purifying the mind and regulating the mind, is the secret of really achieving, enduring happiness.

Day 90 : Just as all of us live in space, and space pervades us all.

In the electricity, none of these objects are there — neither the bulb, nor the fan, nor the computer. All these are equipment that is enlivened by electricity. Similarly, the BMI — Body, Mind and Intellect — are equipment. They are enlivened by Him. They acting, are all expressions of Him. It is all happening in Him. But in Him, none of these equipment are there.

Just as in electricity there is no bulb, none of these equipment are in Brahman.

Day 89 : If you give only a cheque to a project, you will always feel in the end that I have been made a sucker. The fellow took away the money. Pata nahi kya kiya. I have been a fool to give him.

You must get yourself involved. A part of you must go into that work. Then only you feel the satisfaction of having done the charity.

The charity must come from your abundance in yourself, your appreciation of that particular project or individual.

Day 87: The Lord neither receives the paapa of the bad things that you are doing. Nor does He accept your sukrita, the good things that you have done.

Actions by themselves are neither sin or merit. It is the thought contents in you behind the action that makes it good or bad. If it is selfless and out of love, it is merit. If it is selfish and desire-prompted, it is evil.

Whenever an action is undertaken without ego and egocentric desires, it is all punya. Whenever I act in the world outside with ego and arrogance, or my selfish profit motive, all such actions are sins.

— Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda

Day 86 : We are born with tendencies and we are born into tendencies.

A third rate man alone, you, can become in that field because it is a new tendency in you. Why? Your own tendency struggles hard to express.

Learn to understand your tendency and develop in that line. Sky is the limit of your achievement.

Day 85 : Is there a God? God alone knows. He alone can know Him, you can never.

The dreamer can never wake up. Think of it. The waker alone can experience the waking. The dreamer must die, end, when the waker comes. I, the dreamer, and my dream family, and my relationships must all be wiped clean out. There, where the dreamer ends, the waker is always available.

The dreamer when he comes in front of the waker, the dreamer disappears into the waker. Becomes one with Him.

Day 84 : "Rejecting every pleasure in the world, they are striving — and yet they do not reach. Hundreds of cases you can see."

"The intellect has got ideas but the mind is not co-operating to execute them. The mind and intellect are not wedded — they have divorced. The divorce has risen because of a cause: the cause is still desires in you. Therefore the mind is running with the body into the sense world. The intellect has got wonderful vision of spirituality and you sit in contemplation — but the mind drags you down because of the sense desires."

— Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda
