A Deanery of London Sponsored Event
"Upping" Your Welcome:
The Why (not just the How)
Date: Tuesday, March 17, 2026
Time: 7:00–8:30 pm (Zoom)
With the Rev’d Canon Dr. Judy Paulsen: Professor of Evangelism, Wycliffe College (2013-2024), former director of the Institute of Evangelism (2016 to 2023), author of A New and Ancient Evangelism (Baker Academic, 2024), and coordinator of the Season of Spiritual Renewal, Diocese of Toronto (2024-2025)

Why another conversation about welcome?
Many of our parishes have already been working hard to be places of welcome. We often focus on the how: signage, greeters, coffee hours, websites, and follow-up. Of course, these practical details matter. But beneath them lies a deeper and more important question: Why do we welcome in the first place?

This evening will invite participants to step back and reflect on welcoming not simply as a strategy to fill pews but as something that allows us to join in what God is already doing and has the potential to transform people’s lives. What will this evening explore?

• Some of the Bible’s most well-loved stories of people coming to faith
• How our own spiritual renewal and prayer is linked to people being welcomed
• How a renewed perspective on welcome can change the DNA of a church, resulting in many practical new habits and practices

What do we hope you will take away?
• Greater clarity about the why behind welcoming people to explore their spiritual questions and longings
• A renewed theological and spiritual grounding for parish hospitality
• Practical suggestions, strategies, & experiments that flow from purpose, not pressure

This evening is for anyone who cares about the life of their parish and wants to reflect on what it means to welcome others in Christ’s name. Seeker, explorer, new Christian, or someone who has journeyed with Christ for many years…all are welcome.

SACRED STEPS:
Walking the Labyrinth in Lent
With the Rev Stephen Yeo, MDiv

Saturday, February 28th
1:00pm–3:00pm
St. Paul’s Cathedral

We will be invited into a deeper experience of learning, spiritual growth, and self-renewal as we walk together through the sacred symbolism of the labyrinth. Whether this is your first time or a familiar practice, all are welcome to discover how the labyrinth can enhance your Lenten journey.
Rev. Stephen has been walking labyrinths for three decades. Through the years, he has facilitated labyrinth walks for many patients, parishioners, and persons from various backgrounds. He has presented on, and published about, labyrinths and their therapeutic benefits (see links over). For the past 10+ years, he has been utilizing labyrinth walking for quarterly Equinox and Solstice events, drawing on their benefits to support patients and clients as they navigate transitions in their lives. His goal is to one day go to, and fully experience, the Chatres Cathedral Labyrinth in Chatres, France (near to, if not at, the top of his bucket list!). Stephen trained under The Rev'd Dr. Lauren Artress, founder of Veriditas, a leader in the labyrinth world, and author of several books, which includes the Landmark, Walking A Sacred Path (see links over).

As well as being a parish priest, the Rev’d Stephen Yeo brings to us many years of experience as a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), a Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner (CASC), a Certified Supervisor-Educator (CPE), and a Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitator.

Please see a note from the organizers of Deanery sponsored Children's production taking place at St John the Evangelist. At the moment, they are looking for some help on the production end. Very shortly there will be additional information about the how and when of seeing this in December.

Thank you for considering your availability to help

Hi everyone,

Eighteen children from the Sunday School at St. John the Evangelist and the wider London community are rehearsing a play to be staged at St. John's December 12-14th: the charming classic, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". This is being directed by Carolyn Hall and produced by Michelle Deman, and we must ask for extra hands to make the magic happen!

Help is especially needed in these areas:

Seamstresses/ Costume Helpers - anyone who can sew, hem or help organize curtains and costumes for our young actors.

Advertising/ Promotions - people who can help spread the word around, share posts on social media, or hang up posters.

If you enjoy working with children, being creative, or just love the fun of theatre, we’d be so grateful for your help! Every little bit makes a huge difference.

If you are interested, or would just like more information, please reach out to Michelle Deman at [email protected]

Thank you for supporting our kids and helping us to make this show special for everyone involved!
