Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I am delighted to announce that the Global Anglican Council has agreed that the headquarters of the Global Anglican Communion will be established in Abuja, Nigeria.

This decision was made at our meeting in Recife, Brazil, on Saturday 22 August 2026, as we considered how best to strengthen and support the future life and ministry of our global fellowship.

Abuja already holds a significant place in our history — it was there at G26 earlier this year that the Abuja Affirmation declared that Gafcon has reordered the Anglican Communion into a truly Global Church.

As the Global Anglican Communion, it is fitting that the city where this new chapter was so clearly articulated should also become a physical home from which we serve Global Anglicans throughout the world.

While modern technology enables us to work together across nations and continents, we believe there is great value in a physical home and administrative hub for our shared life and mission.

In time, we hope this may become more than that — a place for gathering, training, and equipping leaders as together we seek the proclamation of the gospel and the building up of Christ’s Church.

Much work remains in shaping this new home, and we are grateful for the enthusiasm of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) as we begin exploring these possibilities together.

We pray that from Abuja we may serve Anglicans in every part of the world, giving thanks for the remarkable ways God is growing and strengthening his Church across the nations.

We ask for your prayers as we seek his wisdom for all that lies ahead.

Yours in Christ,

The Most Revd Dr Laurent Mbanda
Chairman of the Global Anglican Council

Please pray for the Anglican Convocation in Europe (ACE) as clergy and lay leaders gather for their Conference and Synod in Hyde, England, from 3–5 September.

ACE was established by Gafcon and is an extra-provincial diocese of the Global Anglican Communion. Give thanks for its faithful witness, and pray for the Rt Revd Andy Lines, Presiding Bishop of ACE and a member of the Global Anglican Council, as he leads the diocese.

Please pray for the Rt Revd Stuart Bell as he teaches from Hebrews on The Heart of the Matter, and for the Revd Andrew Fellows speaking on proactive mission and the good news of the gospel.

Pray for safe travel, joyful worship, deep encouragement, and renewed vision for proclaiming Christ faithfully throughout Europe.

Growing and Building
We’re looking forward to gathering together this October with delegates and friends from all across our diocese and nation in St. John’s, NL for our annual general synod. This year among other things, we have a special focus on Church Planting and Revitalization. Our vision and mission is to not only remain faithful and steady, but to see our churches continue to grow and flourish and multiply, reaching more and more people with the saving news of life in Christ.
Our theme title is “Growing & Building God’s Church” and as we pray, share and collaborate we’ll centre around 1 Corinthians 3:9-11:

“For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

There’s still time to register to join us in Newfoundland this October 21-23. You can learn more and register at dioceseofcanada.ca/synod2026
