Do you ever feel like you have that one project hanging over your head, that never seems to get finished. Well, imagine 140 years!

Yours truly ☺️had a chance to visit the Sagrada Familia in 1997. Even then, the partially finished church - 140 years in the making - was an impressive sight to behold, and a testament to the enduring Catholic faith.

Gaudi could not have known the world that would exist today, but he started the project knowing the faith would endure through time.

Bursting with Pride! 🎉 Our parish was recognized this week with a City of Kawartha Lakes Accessibility Awareness & Recognition Award for the work on our Hall.

Accessibility is about more than ramps, railings, and doorways. At its heart, it is about ensuring that everyone feels welcome, safe and able to participate. Creating spaces that are accessible and inclusive is one way that we live out our faith, helping people safely and fully participate in community life.

We are grateful to the many volunteers, donors, community partners, and parishioners whose efforts over the years have helped make our Hall a welcoming place for all.

Congratulations to everyone who played a part in this important achievement. ♿✝️

How do we remain truly human in the age of AI?

According to Fr. Mike Schmitz and Dr. Arthur Brooks: don’t panic… go to Mass. 😄

In this conversation, they explore Pope Leo XIV’s new encyclical and what it means to live as fully human persons in a world increasingly shaped by technology.

A thought-provoking watch for anyone interested in faith, technology, and the dignity of the human person. ✝️

Our priests are on retreat this week.
Let’s continue to pray for vocations - that those receiving a call to serve in the Lord’s vineyard may respond generously to that call.

JOIN US & SHARE WITH YOUR FAMILY - FAREWELL FATHER ISRAEL (COMMUNITY CAFE - THIS SUNDAY - JUNE 7)
After six years of faithful service at St. Luke’s Parish, Fr. Israel Oruebi will be leaving Downeyville on June 24 as he begins a new ministry assignment in Kirkfield. Fr. Israel arrived at St. Luke’s during the uncertainty of the COVID outbreak and has been a steady spiritual leader for our parish community through many important moments in parish life. We are deeply grateful for his care, leadership, humour, faith, and presence among us over these past six years.

All parishioners and friends of St. Luke’s are warmly invited to join us for a Farewell Community Café on Sunday, June 7 following the 9:00 AM Mass (the Cafe will start around 10 am) as we thank Fr. Israel and wish him blessings in this next chapter.

Please contact members of the Hearts & Shamrocks Group to contribute to a gift &/or the reception.

Today, Bishop Miehm ordained three men—Sean Dunlop, Peter Bagnall, and Nicolas DuBonnet—to the permanent diaconate for the Catholic Church. The ordination Mass took place at the Cathedral of Saint Peter-in-Chains in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough. This celebration marked the culmination of years of spiritual formation, discernment, and theological preparation for the candidates. As permanent deacons, these three men are called to a lifelong ministry of service. They will fulfill a three-fold role: assisting priests at the altar, proclaiming the Gospel, and serving in charitable outreach programs for those in need across the community.

Congratulations to Deacon Peter Bagnall! This weekend, we welcomed him home to St. Luke’s for his first Mass as a deacon and a celebration with family, friends, and parishioners.

Peter was also presented with a colourful handmade stole created decades ago by parishioners who have since gone to their eternal rest. It is a treasured piece of St. Luke’s history, now entrusted to him as part of our parish legacy. Shown here, Deacon Peter and his mentor, Deacon Aidan Murphy, admire the stole together.

Please keep Deacon Peter and his family in your prayers as he begins this new ministry of service to the Church. ✝️🙏
