WEEKEND RECAP:

+ This past weekend our leaders went away to Keats Island to spend time praying and listening to the Lord.

+ For our Sunday service we had guest speaker Glenn speak on standing fast in our faith with Jesus as our anchor.

+ During worship we were reminded that all we need is God, as we sang "if the highest place I reach is at Your feet, then I've done it all".

+ We ended with invitation to take communion and to truly remember what it means.

Artist Feature: Mikayla Oglivy

We were so blessed to have Mikayla contribute her watercolour to the journal this year (found on page 30).

As you ponder this piece, reflect on the verse John 6:63:
"The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life."

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ On this beautiful Thanksgiving Sunday, we took a moment in service to thank God. With the people sitting next to us we were able to pray in small groups and praise the Lord for the way our lives have been blessed.

+ During worship we raised our voices together and declared that "God's glory is our good". Then in our call and response we admitted our need to rely on God and to fully surrender to Him.

+ Pastor Jason continued our "Fix Your Eye" series by taking a look at Matthew 15:29-39, as well as the occurrences of spiritual revelations on mountaintops throughout the Bible. We were reminded that those moments of abundance do not guarantee faith or trust in the next ordinary moment.

A Prayer for Taking the First Step:

When I think of Great Starts of the Bible,
I think of Luke drawing words into Word,
and followers following death to be your disciple.

I think of Moses,
determined to go somewhere
he doesn't really know

I think of David, Mary, Ruth - those who leapt
when you told them to go.

I trek Your path, now,
having learned I must kneel
(that I would be wanted by God,
is unfathomably surreal)

Surrendered my control,
accepted God as my Guide,
I yearn to hold nothing
but memories
of how You provide.

Sometimes, my path is a park;
paved and flat.

And when I'm called off it?
You make me okay with that.

Longing to know the trust
Jesus has in His Father,
Since I live
only because of your
righteous grace and honour.

Still fumbling my footing,
navigating a path to You,
Still trusting your spirit.
Still, I am made new.

Amen.

Sabbath Sunday Reflection on the name of God: Adonai

Start by reading Genesis 15:1-8

It's fitting that the first instance of 'Adonai' being written is in the story of God making a promise to Abram.

Abram initially questions God's professed protection and favour. Yet in the same breath, he declares God as Lord, as Sovereign.

God is not limited by human doubts or by earthly constraints. We can trust that he is in control and will do what he says.

When is a moment you have found yourself doubting God's sovereignty?

What is a place in your life currently where God may be asking you to renew your trust in him?

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ We had our second Hub Sunday of the summer, full of beautiful connection and contemplation.

+ Joseph shared a teaching with us on God's name of "Jehovah Tsidkenu", which means "The LORD Our Righteousness". He reminded us that righteousness is something we receive, not something we can achieve on our own.

+ We were given the opportunity to dig deeper by discussing questions together in small groups. Amidst the conversations good insights emerged, like how even in moments where we are tempted, we can use it as a prompting to reach out to God and lean on Jesus even more.

+ The service ended with a time for communion and worship, as we raised our voices to declare "Lord, I need You, oh, I need You".

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ Today we had an outdoor service at Bear Creek Pool, complete with pizza lunch and swimming after the sermon!

+ Pastoral Resident Jordan taught on God's name "Jehovah Jireh", which means "the Lord will Provide". She reminded us how God's provision does not always look like how we think it should.

+ We had the opportunity to discuss with each other, remembering moments where God provided for us, and considering areas of our lives where God may be leading us to reorder our desires.

+ Our service ended with communion as we worshipped together and praised God for giving us His breath in our lungs.

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ We had our first Hub Sunday of the summer and it was a great time! It was a chance to worship and learn together, while connecting more in the smaller space.

+ Pastor Jason started our summer sermon series "Hello, my name is..." which looks at the names of God. Today we began with the name "Elohim" and considered what is something we know about God that we would like to see in our lives.

+ There were multiple chances to have discussions in small groups, fostering contemplation about things like how we define ourselves and see our worth.

Happy Canada Day! Let's pray for our country.

God, thank you for our country. We are grateful to live in a place that values peace, equality and freedom.

We ask that you guide our leaders and build up this country and its people into all that you desire.

We long to be more like you and repent of the ways we have turned away and hurt others. May we learn from our past and build towards a better future.

Give our leaders wisdom when they make decisions. Give us a heart to care for everyone in our country.

God, thank you for this place we call home. Transform Canada, we trust that you are working. Amen.
