Sabbath Sunday Reflection on the name of God: Adonai

Start by reading Genesis 15:1-8

It's fitting that the first instance of 'Adonai' being written is in the story of God making a promise to Abram.

Abram initially questions God's professed protection and favour. Yet in the same breath, he declares God as Lord, as Sovereign.

God is not limited by human doubts or by earthly constraints. We can trust that he is in control and will do what he says.

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ We had our second Hub Sunday of the summer, full of beautiful connection and contemplation.

+ Joseph shared a teaching with us on God's name of "Jehovah Tsidkenu", which means "The LORD Our Righteousness". He reminded us that righteousness is something we receive, not something we can achieve on our own.

+ We were given the opportunity to dig deeper by discussing questions together in small groups. Amidst the conversations good insights emerged, like how even in moments where we are tempted, we can use it as a prompting to reach out to God and lean on Jesus even more.

+ The service ended with a time for communion and worship, as we raised our voices to declare "Lord, I need You, oh, I need You".

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ Today we had an outdoor service at Bear Creek Pool, complete with pizza lunch and swimming after the sermon!

+ Pastoral Resident Jordan taught on God's name "Jehovah Jireh", which means "the Lord will Provide". She reminded us how God's provision does not always look like how we think it should.

+ We had the opportunity to discuss with each other, remembering moments where God provided for us, and considering areas of our lives where God may be leading us to reorder our desires.

+ Our service ended with communion as we worshipped together and praised God for giving us His breath in our lungs.

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ We had our first Hub Sunday of the summer and it was a great time! It was a chance to worship and learn together, while connecting more in the smaller space.

+ Pastor Jason started our summer sermon series "Hello, my name is..." which looks at the names of God. Today we began with the name "Elohim" and considered what is something we know about God that we would like to see in our lives.

+ There were multiple chances to have discussions in small groups, fostering contemplation about things like how we define ourselves and see our worth.

Happy Canada Day! Let's pray for our country.

God, thank you for our country. We are grateful to live in a place that values peace, equality and freedom.

We ask that you guide our leaders and build up this country and its people into all that you desire.

We long to be more like you and repent of the ways we have turned away and hurt others. May we learn from our past and build towards a better future.

Give our leaders wisdom when they make decisions. Give us a heart to care for everyone in our country.

God, thank you for this place we call home. Transform Canada, we trust that you are working. Amen.

SUNDAY RECAP:

+ We had a lovely time worshipping together in H.D. Stafford for the last time before our summer schedule starts. We sang "Christ All Around Me", a good reminder that He is with us wherever we are.

+ Our congregation had the honour of witnessing a family dedicate their baby today, promising to raise her in the way of the Lord.

+ Pastor Jason concluded our sermon series "Uncomfortable" by teaching on The Parable of the Net from Matthew 13.

Liturgy for: To-Do Lists

Lord, there is so much to do, and always more to do. There are dishes to be washed, laundry to be folded, emails to be checked, meals to be prepped, and “finished” always just beyond my grasp.

As I work to check items off, may I not build a wall out of my tasks, preventing people, beauty, or joy from entering in.

I am anxious and troubled about many things, but only one thing is necessary. Help me choose the good portion: to sit at your feet. Amen.

In our lives, it can seem like there is always more to do and it can weigh on us. But here is our reminder to take a breath and surrender it all to God, allowing Him to guide us through the prioritization of tasks and accept His peace, even in the chaos.

+ Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. (Psalm 51:12)

Prayer can take many forms; it doesn’t always have to be long and carefully crafted. Sometimes it can simply be a verse whispered under your breath as you sit in traffic or a thought you cling to as you beg your children to go to sleep.
