I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." (Romans 12:1)

It’s early in January, so New Year’s resolutions are still fair game (even though someone wrote “He who breaks a New Year’s resolution is a weakling; he who makes one is a fool!”)



For today, let’s take that chance. Dwight L. Moody once said, “The Scriptures were not given for our information, but for our transformation.” The mature Christian therefore thinks in accordance with Romans 12:1-2:
“I must be transformed. “I no longer want to be conformed to this world.”

How is this to happen? There is no magical formula for renewing our minds. The secret is to fill our minds with God’s Word. Delight yourself in the law of the Lord and you will be blessed throughout the new year with the renewal of your mind! That is the New Year’s Resolution we cannot do without!

"If the Lord had not been on our side ... " (Psalm 124:1)

Psalm 124 wonders aloud what would’ve happened to us if the Lord had not been on our side.

In short, the images presented in the Psalm explain that it would’ve been a disaster for us – we would’ve been devoured; our troubles would’ve overwhelmed us; the pressures would’ve ruined us and we would’ve been swept away. But the Lord didn’t allow it. Instead, we escaped like a bird escapes a trap and flies away free!

As you look back on your life - and on 2024 in particular - ask yourself: "Am I sufficiently grateful for the ever-present grace, power and tender loving care of my God?" Or, are you one of those who blindly take good things - and mercies - for granted?

2. Invite Your Loved One to Christmas Eve! Tomorrow, we'll be gathering as we always do to celebrate our Father's indescribable gift! This will be a candlelight service at Nicomekl, the complete Christmas Story, the beauty of the purest Christmas Carols and other special elements. Why not invite someone in your family/friend network to church this Christmas Eve? We start at 6:30 pm, with refreshments and fellowship at 6:00 pm. Bring a plate of Christmas treats for everyone to enjoy!

3. Christmas Morning @ 11:00 am! On Christmas morning you can declare, "Yea Lord, we greet Thee! Born This Happy Morning!" at Grace Community Church (14618 110 Avenue, Surrey) with Pastor Jim & Babette and the congregation that worships there. May the Lord be praised and honored in our lives throughout the year.

We'll be celebrating the Lord's Supper together on the last Sunday of the year, with our focus on Psalm 124: "If the Lord had not been on our side, we would've been swallowed alive ... but the snare is broken and we have escaped!"

If you’re familiar with the Christmas Story, you know that Micah 5:2 was quoted by the Chief Priests for the benefit of crafty old King Herod after the Wise Men arrived in Jerusalem in search of the new King of the Jews. This King has authority to rule because of Who He is and because of what He has done. Does He rule in your life?
