Next Sunday is the United Church Sunday, where we celebrate the union of the Methodists, Congregationalists, Unionists and many of the Presbyterian congregations, along with the Evangelical Brethren who joined up in 1925 with other United Church congregations. For 101 years, we were the strength of the Christian community in the Protestant tradition. Today, the United Church has embarked on a new focus to bring about the Protestant Christianity more into line with 21st century needs. Next Sunday is also Pride Sunday. Pride Sunday has emerged in the last 20 years as a recognition that there is a percentage of our population who are different from the majority but should not be chastised because of their differences. Canada is a country that thrives on diversity. It is the most important lesson that we had two weeks ago in church when the fires of Pentecost didn’t separate those who are different from those who are not, but in fact worked, diligently to include them in the words and work of the Church. I hope you can join us on Pride Sunday and Union Sunday. Pirie

Next Sunday is Trinity Sunday. This particular concept of having the man on the cross made up of Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit has challenged Christians for years. But our Jewish brothers and sisters could not accept that concept, hence did not join into his message. Judaism rejects the Trinity primarily because it directly contradicts the absolute, indivisible oneness of God, which is the foundational bedrock of the Jewish faith. For Jews, the concept of a multi-part deity compromises the strict monotheism of their faith and strays into the realm of idolatry. The sermon next week will a challenge. Hope to see you then. Pirie

Next Sunday is the 6th Sunday of Easter. We also know it as Christian Family Sunday and Rogation Sunday. Rogation Sunday, traditionally the fifth Sunday after Easter, marks the start of Rogationtide, a time of prayer, fasting, and processions to ask for God’s blessing on agriculture, the environment, and human labour. It emphasizes sustainable stewardship of creation and dependence on the Creator; knowing that there will be times of hardship along with generous returns. I look forward to welcoming you to the service. Pirie
