Join us at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays through June 21st.

May 24, 2026. “In medias res…” Rev. Jess. Today we consider the chapter of this congregation’s story that includes our 18 years of shared ministry and imagine the possibilities that lie ahead for our ‘Quiet Juicy Freedom Church’. *New member ceremony*

May 31, 2026. “After the Ecstasy, the Laundry.” Retiring minister Rev. Jess and incoming minister Rev. Anne Barker share the pulpit this morning! After we get where we are going, what do we do with what we got? Jack Kornfield writes: “The Hindus tell us that the child in the womb sings, ‘Do not let me forget who I am,’ but that the song after birth becomes, ‘Oh, I have forgotten already.”’ Still, as surely as there is a voyage away, there is a journey home.”

June 7, 2026. "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!" We bid Rev. Jess farewell with love and stories (and maybe....probably, tears). Join us to hear from several congregants who will share their moments with Jess.

Join us 10:30 a.m. Sundays for thoughtful reflection and inspiring community.

April 19, 2026. “The Story of Co-Creation.” Rev Jess and Worship Artists with the Spirit of Life Choir. This morning we celebrate Earth Day in poetry and reflection, story and song.

April 26, 2026. “Challenge, Chance, and Change.” Rev. Jess. Nearly half the questions submitted at last month’s Question Box service asked about how to sustain ourselves in these challenging times of rising facism, war, and inequality. Today we’ll consider what relevant lessons Process Theology might hold for UUs.

May 3, 2026. “Living the 5th Principle: Reflections on Representing the Public Good.” Susanna Reid, Stratford Unitarians. Lifelong Unitarian Susanna Reid will share her experience and expertise in applying the principles of Non Violent Communication in her work as a municipal planner. Stay after the service for our annual MayPole celebration.

May 10, 2026. “No Exit from Mt Hope Cemetery and Other Signs Along the Road to Ministry.” Rev. Jess & the Spirit of Life Choir. Mother’s Day is the anniversary of my calling to ministry, when I finally decided to follow the ‘signs’ that led me here to GRU. Join Jess and the choir for the retelling of the story of call and response.

Founded in 2001, IGR brings the wisdom of our many traditions to bear on current issues affecting our community by promoting dialogue, encouraging interaction, and challenging intolerance.

MARCH at GRU. Join us at 10:30 a.m. for these thoughtful Sunday mornings of musings and music.

March 1, 2026. “The Question Is the Gift.” Rev. Jess & Janis Collins with music Jay Moore and Rosemarie Harris. Poet Denise Levertov writes: “You are given the questions of others as if they were answers to all you ask / Yes, perhaps this gift is your answer.” The annual Question Box service is an exercise in our cherished freedom of the pews as YOU choose the topics of the day for Jess to respond to extemporaneously.

March 8, 2026. “Marriage in Ontario.” Charlotte Innerd with music by Curtis Dueck and Tom Nagy. An archivist delves into a controversial marriage ceremony in a Universalist church in 1920. Come hear a little-known story about the early struggles that eventually set the stage for marriage equality in Ontario. [Don’t forget to change your clocks for this Time Change Weekend!]

March 15, 2026 "What's Love Got to Do with It?": Thoughts on How Best to Respond to the Ecological and Social Crises of Our Time. Dr. Stephen Scharper with Joyce Reesor and the Spirit of Life Choir directed by Rich Hrytzak. We are at the confluence of several major crises: climate change, threats to democracy, especially in the USA, and "culture rot," which celebrates greed, violence, and an overwhelming assault on human dignity. After briefly detailing each of these challenges, I hope to unpack the role of love and social compassion as a basis for a creative response.

March 22, 2026 “In Praise of Slow.” Brenda Moen. In his book In Praise of Slow, Carl Honoré says: “As… technology made it possible to do everything more quickly, hurry and haste seeped into every corner of life. People were expected to think faster, work faster, talk faster, read faster, write faster, eat faster, move faster.” Carl examines the costs of living at a fast pace and the benefits of living slow. He says, “Slow is the opposite: calm, careful, receptive, still, intuitive, unhurried, patient, reflective, quality-over-quantity. It is about making real and meaningful connections—with people, culture, work, food, everything.” In a time where there is so much pressure on us to be fast, embracing a slower pace - when we can - has many benefits for us and our world.

March 29, 2026. “Connect, Include & Engage.” Fauzia Mazhar of KW Muslim Women with Christa Van Daele. To be deeply connected, to be radically inclusive, and to be actively engaged are just three of our “Five Aspirations” as Canadian Unitarian Universalists. This morning we celebrate those heady aspirations with Fauzia Mazhar and the women of the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW. Respected in our community for their long time pioneering work in anti-oppression, we also explore our mutual commitment to building community beyond our own community, enacting our mutual relational strengths in the ongoing work of defending democracy.

April 5, 2026. “Rising to the Moment.” Rev. J.P. Rodela. On this Easter Sunday, the start of our annual stewardship drive, we consider how the message of the ancient Christian story calls us to respond to times of uncertainty.

April 12, 2026. “Interfaith Grand River.” Jay Moore and representatives from Interfaith Grand River return to GRU to share perspectives on faith and diversity. Founded in 2001, IGR brings the wisdom of our many traditions to bear on current issues affecting our community by promoting dialogue, encouraging interaction, and challenging intolerance.

FEBRUARY Sundays at GRU. Join us at 10:30 a.m. for a morning of music and musings.

February 1, 2026 “The Beauty of Loss.” Tom Nagy.
How do you navigate through life, loss and love without losing yourself? Experiences, lessons learned and pro tips from someone who doesn't really know, either.

February 8, 2026 “Like the Rings of a Tree.” Rev. Jess & the Spirit of Life Choir. Thomas Moore writes: “The soul is partly in time and partly in eternity. We might remember the part that resides in eternity when we feel despair over the part that is in life.” How do we cultivate our souls in the soil of our experience?

February 15, 2026. “The Memory Box.” In her book ATLAS OF THE HEART, Brene Brown describes a “picture memory” as “a picture I take in my mind when I’m really, really happy. I close my eyes and take a picture, so when I’m feeling sad or scared or lonely, I can look at my picture memories.” What’s in your picture?

February 22, 2026 “It’s Just Our Turn” A short reflection on embracing our own leadership potential will be followed by our congregation's Annual General Meeting.

March 1, 2026. "The Question Box Sermon."

Join us 10:30 a.m. for January Sundays.

January 4, 2026. “Bonfire of Beliefs: The Annual Fire Communion Service.” Rev. Jess. What do you need to let go of to make room for something new?

January 11, 2026. “The Art of Extreme Adulting.” After a year of frustration at the state of the political climate, it boils down to this demand: asking our governing class to act like adults. What does that mean – for them and for us?

January 18, 2026. “Weavers of Possibility: The Requiem Service.” Today we pay tribute to lives lost in the past year, and find inspiration in their lives and legacy.

January 25, 2026. “Converting to Uncommon Sense.” Rev. Jess with music by Tracey Szarka & Jay Moore. UUism has been called the “Uncommon Denomination.” Let’s examine what the ‘examined life’ has to teach us.

December 21, 2025. “Box Full of Darkness.” Rev. J. P. Rodela with music by Joyce Reesor and Ivan Emke. Sikh activist Valerie Kaur asks: “What if this darkness is not the darkness of the tomb, but the darkness of the womb?”

Wednesday, December 24 at 7 p.m. “The Friendly Beasts: Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.” With no room at the inn, a mother gives birth in stable surrounded by four-legged witnesses. Tonight we share the ancient tale of hope born in troubled times in story and song.
