A limerick (Irish poem) for St. Patrick's Day:
The Comboni's, with faith as their guide,
Across deserts and rivers did stride.
With St. Daniel's plea,
"Let Africa be free!"
Their mission, they'd never hide.
St. Patrick was first and foremost a missionary. Born in Scotland, England or Wales (it's still up for debate), he was kidnapped and taken to be enslaved in Ireland. He escaped, studied in England and France before being ordained a Bishop. He then returned to Ireland as a missionary Bishop.
A prayer from the Breastplate of St. Patrick:
Christ be with me,
Christ within me,
Christ behind me,
Christ before me,
Christ beside me,
Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ in quiet,
Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
St. Patrick, pray for us.
