In 1886, St. Andrew’s received a new baptismal font, given by Miss Perine in memory of her late mother, Mrs. M. O. Perine. 140 years later, it remains part of St. Andrew’s.
A church account from the time described it as “a beautiful piece of workmanship, carved and decorated in excellent taste, and fully in keeping with its immediate surroundings.”
The font was first used on October 31, 1886, when the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tait was baptized by the Rev. J. K. Smith, then Moderator of the General Assembly.
