Dear Grace Family & Friends,

Yesterday we talked about the disciples living in fear of the Jewish leaders and locking themselves up in a room when Jesus appears to them and brings these words, "Peace be with you." It is so easy to allow the circumstances of life to overwhelm us and cause us to fall into a place of fear, but Jesus calls out to us in the midst of these situations and tells us, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me."

I thought I would share a few songs that help us focus on God and live in His strength. I especially like the words of one song, "Although I am in the storm, the storm is not in me."

I trust that you will live in the peace of God today and throughout this week.

Blessings,

Pastor Harry

Dear Grace Family & Friends,

The peace and assurance that Jesus gives us in the midst of the things in life that can cause sorrow and distress is one of the great benefits of knowing that God Himself is with us in all things. I have often been blessed by the words of this hymn and it is especially meaningful when we know the story behind its composition. My mother gave me a Christmas gift one year that was a devotional book that took and shared the stories behind some of the great hymns of faith that have been written over the centuries.

As I was thinking about hymns to accompany this weeks message I came across this particular video. Perhaps because one of the things Lois and I have done during these weeks of "Physical Distancing" was to watch all six seasons of "Downton Abbey" that it caught my attention when I saw the picture and name of "Hugh Bonneville" and my initial thought was that I didn't know he sang? So I started to listen and was amazed to hear the rest of the story of how the impact of the composer's loss not only resulted in a great hymn but a life that continued to be lived faithfully serving Jesus.

I trust that you will be blessed hearing "The rest of the story" of the lives of the Spafford family, and be inspired that we too share life with the same wonderful Saviour.

Of course I ended up spending some time listening to other versions of this great hymn and have also included them for you here as well.

You may want to sing along to this Gaither Homecoming version.

This is a beautiful acapella version of the hymy.

This is new song that takes the thoughts of the original hymn and uses the chorus but has a newer verse and melody which is powerful in its own way.

In the stresses that we are experiencing with this Covid crisis and physical distancing I pray that you will know the peace that Jesus brings to each day and can say, "It is well with my soul".

Blessings

Dear Grace Family & Friends,
Today I was reminded as I watched the morning news that today is "Earth Day" and that for 50 years we have been recognizing this day and focusing our attention on our own environment and the things that we do to impact it.In Genesis we read that when God had finished His creative efforts making the heavens and the the earth, "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."
David the Psalmist reflected on God's earth with these words, "The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;"and again in Psalm 8 he wrote these words of praise:Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
I would encourage you to look beyond the creation and see the Creator today and spend some time in worshiping Him. Offer Him a hymn of grateful praise.
May these two hymns and the images that accompany them bless you today.

In celebrating Easter I listened to a lot of different hymns and other music that I found quite inspirational. But I owe it to Philip Serez for reminding me of "The Easter Song". I had a cassette tape (some of you will remember those) that I pretty much wore out listening to. It was called "The Acappella Project" by a group called "Glad". This may be one of my favourite renditions of that song and I thought I would share it with you as we continue to celebrate the Risen Lord.
