THE EXALTATION OF THE CROSS

"He humble Himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on the Cross."(Ph 2:8)

Jesus dies on the Cross specifically for His love for me and the world. His Cross stands firm while the world turns. So it isn't just my sins that put Christ there. But in the eyes of the world, the Cross of Jesus makes little sense. When l look at the crucifix, what do l feel? Does my life change? When the Israelites look at Seraph Serpent, they experience the healing love of God (Num 21:4-9). Just as the Seraph Serpent becomes an instrument of healing, saving them from sickness and death, so is the Cross of Christ. The Cross is not where Jesus lost His power. It is where He reveals the power of God's love to conquer sin and death. The Cross is a cruel instrument of suffering and death that is transformed into grace-filled instruments of healing and resurrection. Am l justified to reject Christ then? Ashamed to make the Sign of Cross in public? What puts Him there? My grumbling? Ungratefulness? Sins? Not quite so. Rather, it is His selfless love and friendship, the desire to suffer for me to gain heaven (Jn 3:13-17). The Exaltation of the Cross reveals the love of God shining in the Face of Christ Jesus.

PRAYER🙏: Heavenly Father, thank You for the Cross. Help me to lift it high in my heart, my mind, and over every struggle. Strengthen my faith, my love, and my obedience. Through Christ Our Lord 🙏AMEN.(JWAD)

"WHO MADE YOU SO IMPORTANT?" (1 Cor 4:7)

Human being is not an island. No one can make him/herself. Whatever my status, position, credentials, etc., somebody puts me there. The Corinth Church behaves as if they have attained the highest level of holiness. But Paul brings them from assumption to the true path of holiness. We all need one another one way or the other. But can l please everyone? What about making myself happy? St. Paul is convinced that his destiny is to father the Corinthians in Christ. Isn't he being ironic or perhaps even sarcastic? He contrasts the privileged place of the people with his own role as an Apostle, despised and put down even by God. It's better to be fooled on Christ account than to boast of nothing. God has made each and every one differently, with different gifts. I need to appreciate and value everyone. Jesus will always come to my defence if l do that (Lk 6:1-5). He is indeed the Lord of the Sabbath. Following Jesus doesn't make me a star. It makes me humble, gentle, generous, and patient.

PRAYER🙏: Heavenly Father, all that l have and all that l am comes from You. Help me to boast only of all that You have done for me, to be aware that there is much more You wish to do, and to love and respect those You chose to minister to me. Through Christ Our Lord🙏AMEN. (JWAD)

"It is of no importance to me how you or any human court may judge me."(1 Cor 4:3)

St. Paul prides himself as a steward in charge of God's goods. So he is concerned of God's judgment on him. He has a healthy disregard for whatever opinion Corinth critics may have formed of him and is content to leave the final assessment of his career to God. What will happen on the judgment day? Will God look only at my wrong side? What about the good qualities in me? For St. Paul, it's a big No! God sees the whole picture of who l am. People's opinions about me shouldn't rule my life. The final assessment of me lies in God's judgment. The Church in Corinth is squabbling over doctrines, favouring one Apostles over another, and becoming divided as a result. But Paul doesn't want them to hung on personalities. Does my opinion put walls between me and others? Am l judgmental like the Scribes and the Pharisees (Lk 5:33-38)? The way l fast and pray can only be judged worthy by God alone. Life lived in the Holy Spirit cannot be patched onto the kind of life lived by those who judge by the standards of the world. The only person l need to please is God.

PRAYER 🙏: Heavenly Father, there are many l may disagree with. Help me to look beyond my differences to find harmony in the power of Your love. Through Christ Our Lord 🙏AMEN.(JWAD)

Prayer for the Intercession of St. Gregory the Great

Glorious St. Gregory, Servant of the Servants of God, you combined profound theological wisdom with deep pastoral care. I ask for your intercession today.
Obtain for me the grace to seek Christ in prayer, to serve the vulnerable with charity, and to boldly proclaim the Gospel in my daily life.
Pray that I, too, may become an instrument of God's peace.
Guide my heart, and help me to build a firm foundation of faith.
St. Gregory the Great, pray for me. Amen.

"Let no one boast about human leaders. For all belongs to God."(1 Cor 3:21)

God does not really need human instruments. But in His wisdom, He has decided to employ me and any human person. The Cross of Christ has shown forever the reckless foolishness of God's love, but it has also shown up human boasting as mere pretense. St. Paul, therefore, tells me to be servant and follower of God. In what way then? What is God's purpose for me? Simon Peter's call is accompanied by profound recognition of his unworthiness. This can only be overcome by Jesus' assurance: 'Fear not!' (Lk 5:1-11). He tells me to put into the deep. Without Him, l catch no fish. He leads me to realize that sinfulness can be the privilege of access whereby l let the Lord enter my life. It is not an impediment to be in the Lord's presence. To be faithful to my call as servant, l must learn not to judge by human standards but by that of God.

PRAYER🙏Heavenly Father, thank You for looking pass my failings and pointing me towards Your perfect plan.🙏AMEN.(JWAD)
