What belongs in the Bible—and how do we know?

What if the thing we treasure most has quietly taken the place that belongs to God alone?

William Cowper’s words from O for a Closer Walk with God are a searching prayer for every Christian heart.

An idol isn’t necessarily something we bow down to. It can be anything we love, trust, fear, or pursue more than God—our comfort, our reputation, our plans, or even good things that have become ultimate things.

The prayer isn’t simply, “Lord, help me behave better.” It’s, “Lord, show me what competes with Your throne, free my heart from its grip, and teach me to worship You alone.”

Who decided which books belong in the Bible? 📖

Why do our Bibles contain 66 books? What happened to books like the Gospel of Thomas? Did Constantine decide which books made it into the Bible?

This Wednesday, we’re exploring the canon of Scripture in our Systematic Theology series. We’ll look at how the books of the Bible were recognized, address common misconceptions, and consider why these questions matter for our faith.

SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY | GOD HAS SPOKEN — PART 2: THE WORD

How has God made Himself known to us? And how can we know what He has said?

Last time, we began exploring general revelation—how God reveals His power and glory through creation. This week, we continued by reviewing what we can know about God through the world He has made and began looking at special revelation—how God has spoken to us through His Word.

God has not left us guessing about who He is. He has made Himself known, and He calls us to listen, believe, and respond.

What does the Bible teach about pastors and the congregation’s responsibility toward them?

In our latest sermon, guest preacher Josiah Spence opens Hebrews 13:7–8, 17 to help us understand God’s design for pastoral ministry and how we are called to respond to those who shepherd us.

Pastors are called to care for God’s people, teach His Word, guard the church, and lead with godly character. And the congregation is called to remember faithful leaders, imitate their faith, respond to their biblical leadership, and pray for them.

Through every season of church life, including times of leadership transition, one truth remains our anchor: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

You don’t have to know what to do next. You need to know where to turn.

When life gets complicated, decisions feel overwhelming, and you can’t see the way forward, where do you turn for wisdom?

James 1:5–8 points us to a God who gives generously to those who ask Him.

But asking for wisdom and trusting God are inseparable.

🎉 Welcome to the Keswick Christian Church family!

This past Sunday, we had the joy of welcoming 11 new members into the KCC family. What a celebration!

Church membership is more than putting your name on a list. Scripture gives us a picture of Christians committing themselves to one another as the body of Christ—sharing in one another’s joys and burdens, caring for one another, and joining together in the mission Christ has given His church.

As Paul writes:
“God has so composed the body… that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”
— 1 Corinthians 12:24–27

What a gift it is to see 11 people publicly commit themselves to Christ, His church, and the mission of making disciples through the gospel.

We thank God for adding to our church family and for the fruit He is producing in our midst. This is a great grace of God—and we give Him all the glory! 🙌
