They barely reach the altar.
Knees tucked under them.
Hands folded the way someone once showed them.

They don’t know the big words yet.

They don’t know how to explain fear, gratitude, or why grown-ups sometimes cry in church.

At first, prayer is simple.
Thank you for today.
Help my mom.
Please keep me safe.

Prayer is learned like walking—
by watching,
by stumbling,
and by being gently guided back up.

A habit being formed long before life gets heavy.

When joy comes, they’ll know where to take it.
When heartbreak shows up uninvited,
they’ll already know where to kneel—
at an altar, a bedside, or the front seat of a truck.

As the years pass, the prayers change.
They get longer.
They get harder.
Sometimes they feel unanswered.

But the foundation was laid early:
when words fail, you are not alone.

Teaching a child to pray
isn’t just about faith—
it’s about resilience.

That no matter how loud the world gets,
there is a place to be still…
and a God who is always listening.
