Thank you to Linda Paynter and Vera MacLean for helping to clean the church this morning.

Sorry for not posting much lately, Vera and I are selling our home to get a smaller house. The
Geddie office is in a storage locker , at the bottom likely. We have hired Mountain Woodworking to replace the window in the bell tower. Our newest trustee Heather Bernard will be joining us to clean the church the first week of June. The bell tower needs paint but can wait until lobster season is over and the weather warms up.

A large thankyou Roy Campbell our longest
serving trustee who today retired . We have
recieved an offer from 2 people to fill the position.

A big thankyou to Bonnie Lee Lamont for your very generous donation to Geddie Memorial. There are
several people who donate twice yearly to keep us going. Geddie's historical value and importance in the community rely on the support of people like Bonnie. Thankyou again.

A little review of our history as we prepare to seek national heritage status from Canada Heritage. The church was constructed in 1836
by Architect/builder James Clark with the two carpernters George MacLeod and Mr. MacPhee. William Mann ,cabinet maker just out of Edinburgh made the pulpit and sounding board. In 1904 some
changes were made , box pews removed, pulpit lowered and sounding board taken down. The wood for the new pews and pulpit came from the old. The interior remains the same as in 1904.
The bell tower was constructed in 1905 by John Warren and designed by Major Schurman, the bell donated by Collingwood
MacLeod formerly of Park Corner then president of the Bank of Nova Scotia. The building was wired for electricity in 1956 and
the sandstone foundation built in 1980 vinyl siding added in about 2000.Three trustees and a secretary /treasurer now look after Geddie relying on donations to maintain the property.
Donations can be made through e-transfer to "geddiememorial @

Did some investigating into the historic
sites process ,a document from Parks Canada outlined the process in 20 pages. The first
application form to nominate Geddie is 11 pages
and there are 3 in total. Should they accept our
submission the process takes up to 2 years!

Thankyou to Greg Munn of the P.E.I.
Heritage Places Advisory Board for
visiting Geddie today. I was very pleased
with his praise for the condition we have
kept the church. He feels we may get national
recognition as a heritage building
and be able to access funding .
Greg has an architecture firm
based in Murray River specializing
in heritage conservation.
